DCD Enhances Volunteering Policy To Boost Community Engagement In Abu Dhabi

The Department of Community Development (DCD) in Abu Dhabi has introduced a new volunteering policy. This initiative aims to boost community involvement and simplify the volunteer process. The revised policy focuses on creating an inclusive environment that aligns with professional standards while respecting UAE’s cultural values.

Volunteers can now enjoy easier registration through the Emirates Volunteers platform. The updated procedures provide clearer guidelines on roles and responsibilities, ensuring transparency by logging volunteer hours promptly. Protections for all parties involved have also been strengthened.

DCD Revamps Volunteering Policy in Abu Dhabi

Mohamed Al Balooshi, Executive Director of the Community Engagement and Sports Sector at DCD, remarked, "These updates are designed to increase volunteer participation across various sectors and strengthen the spirit of community engagement, ensuring a more unified approach to societal development." His statement underscores the goal of fostering a cohesive community spirit.

In 2023, Abu Dhabi witnessed over 873,787 volunteer hours, marking a 63 percent rise from the previous year. This increase highlights the growing impact of community involvement. Key partners like the Authority of Social Contribution - Ma’an and Emirates Foundation play significant roles in supporting this initiative through various platforms and programmes.

Ma’an is instrumental in promoting a culture of volunteering by offering opportunities and developing programmes that meet community needs. These efforts are carried out in collaboration with government bodies, private companies, and third sector organisations.

Maysa Alnuwais, Executive Director at Ma’an, stated, "This policy will enhance our efforts to create impactful volunteering opportunities that address social priorities, contributing to the overall well-being of Abu Dhabi communities. By empowering volunteers, we not only address pressing social challenges but also strengthen the fabric of our society." Her words highlight the importance of addressing social issues through volunteerism.

Emirates Foundation's Contribution

The Emirates Foundation plays a crucial role by encouraging volunteerism through its Volunteers.ae platform. It facilitates access to opportunities and motivates organisations and teams to share their initiatives on this platform. This approach broadens the reach and impact of volunteer work in Abu Dhabi.

Ahmed Taleb Al Shamsi, CEO of Emirates Foundation, commented, "The updated volunteering policy not only streamlines the volunteer process but also revitalises the spirit of volunteerism and strengthens our community’s commitment to giving. This initiative lays the groundwork for a more engaged and dedicated society that values and preserves our cultural heritage." His statement reflects the aim to foster a committed society through enhanced volunteer efforts.

This revised policy represents a significant step towards enhancing community participation in Abu Dhabi. By simplifying processes and fostering collaboration among key partners, it aims to build a resilient society that values cultural heritage while addressing social challenges effectively.
