DCD Organises Workshop On AI And Showcases UNIVATE Social Innovation Projects At GITEX Global 2025
The Abu Dhabi Department of Community Development (DCD) hosted a workshop titled "From Minimal Machine Learning to Generative AI" at GITEX Global 2025. This session delved into the expanding influence of AI in fostering social impact. It featured projects from the "UNIVATE" Social Innovation Initiative, which encourages youth to create innovative technological and social solutions.
Dr Arif Al Hammadi, Acting Director-General of Strategic and Digital Affairs at DCD, remarked on the significance of AI in crafting inclusive and sustainable social solutions. He stated, "AI has become a main pillar in designing inclusive and sustainable social solutions. By leveraging AI’s analytical capabilities, we can better understand social data, anticipate future needs, and craft more precise and effective social policies, thereby supporting the vision of our wise leadership to build a cohesive society where everyone enjoys a high quality of life."

The workshop emphasised how generative AI and machine learning can aid decision-makers and social development experts. These technologies can help identify community needs early, optimise resource allocation, and simulate policy outcomes before implementation. Integrating digital analytics with social policy design is crucial for ensuring long-term positive effects on community wellbeing.
Students who previously participated in the UNIVATE Competition showcased their projects during the event. Their presentations highlighted the creativity and potential of young people using modern technologies to tackle social challenges. These projects demonstrated how AI-powered digital solutions can raise community awareness and address societal issues effectively.
"UNIVATE" stands as one of DCD’s key initiatives promoting social innovation. It encourages emerging national talents to develop practical solutions that improve individual and community lives. The initiative aims to harness the creativity of youth in applying technology for social good.
DCD's participation at GITEX Global 2025 extends beyond workshops and showcases. It aims to bolster Abu Dhabi’s status as a centre for social and digital innovation. Highlighting AI's transformative potential is central to shaping a more cohesive and sustainable future for the region.
Both the workshop and project showcase are integral parts of DCD’s broader involvement in GITEX Global 2025. They aim to reinforce Abu Dhabi’s position as a leader in social innovation while demonstrating AI's role in creating a more unified society.
