Creo Medical Awarded King's Prize For Innovation In Healthcare Technology

Khalifa University has announced its collaboration with Creo Medical Group, a UK-based company that recently established joint research laboratories at the university in Abu Dhabi. Earlier this year, Creo Medical received the King’s Award for Enterprise in Innovation, recognising its significant impact in the medical sector.

The award was presented to Craig Gulliford, CEO of Creo Medical, at Windsor Castle. The company specialises in minimally invasive surgical endoscopic technologies, using microwave and radiofrequency energy for cutting, coagulating, and ablating soft tissue during procedures. These devices help doctors remove cancerous and pre-cancerous growths from areas such as the bowel, oesophagus, and lung.

Creo Medical Wins King's Innovation Award

Craig Gulliford expressed his gratitude: "We are delighted to have received this award from His Majesty The King in recognition of our team’s outstanding work, dedication and achievements towards innovation in healthcare across the globe." He also highlighted Khalifa University's role in attracting Creo Medical to Abu Dhabi to serve the UAE, Middle East, and Africa region.

The collaboration between Khalifa University and Creo Medical focuses on three main areas: research, education, and investments. The partnership involves engaging with university faculty on projects like Advanced Energy electrosurgical sensing and advancing Plasma Technology for sterilisation and advanced wound care.

Additionally, Creo Medical contributes to educational initiatives by fostering innovation in technology and entrepreneurship. They provide presentations such as ‘Anyone Can Be an Entrepreneur,’ offering practical case studies that inspire students.

Impact on Healthcare

The King’s Award acknowledges Creo Medical's achievements in improving cancer patient treatment outcomes through innovative technologies. These advancements simplify procedures, reduce hospital stays, and lower healthcare costs. The company's devices have brought transformational improvements to patient care.

Sir John O’Reilly, President of Khalifa University, commented: "The award for Creo Medical bears testimony to the extent of Khalifa University’s collaboration with globally leading innovation pioneers across all areas including medical sciences." He emphasised that their combined expertise will benefit both the region and the global community.

The partnership aims to advance engineering and technology research while improving medical science practices. This collaboration is expected to drive further development of Creo's technology locally.

This strategic alliance underscores Khalifa University's commitment to advancing research and innovation in medical sciences. It also highlights their role in fostering technological breakthroughs that have a global impact.
