Saudi-British Sports Cooperation Roundtable Explores Economic Opportunities And International Events
During a recent event in London, Majid Al-Kassabi, the Saudi Minister of Commerce, highlighted the transformative impact of the vision launched by Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman on Saudi Arabia's economy. This vision has opened up new opportunities in key sectors. His comments were made at a roundtable focused on British-Saudi sports cooperation, organised by the National Competitiveness Center and the UK Department for Business and Trade.
The roundtable was attended by 130 officials from both public and private sectors of Saudi Arabia and the UK. Key figures included Saudi Minister of Sport Prince Abdulaziz bin Turki bin Faisal and UK Minister of State for Creative Industries, Arts and Tourism Sir Chris Bryant. Al-Kassabi emphasised that the partnership between Saudi Arabia and the UK is unique.

Al-Kassabi pointed out that the UK is a major player in global services exports. He suggested that both nations could work together to create an integrated framework covering sports, tourism, culture, arts, and technology. These areas are seen as universal languages that transcend borders. The roundtable aimed to introduce companies to opportunities linked to Saudi Arabia's hosting of international sports events like the 2034 FIFA World Cup.
The discussions also explored potential collaborations in sectors supporting sports. These include technology, infrastructure, construction, facility operations, and planning major events. Such cooperation could enhance both countries' capabilities in these fields.
The Saudi delegation accompanying Al-Kassabi started their visit with a tour of Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park. They examined its facilities and learned about its experience in hosting entertainment and sports events. This visit provided insights into how such venues can be utilised effectively for large-scale events.
Al-Kassabi noted that this collaboration could lead to significant advancements in various sectors. "The Saudi-British partnership is exceptional," he stated during the event.
This gathering underscored the potential for growth through shared expertise between Saudi Arabia and the UK. By leveraging each other's strengths, both countries aim to foster development across multiple industries.
