Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi And Archer Aviation Announce Plans For UAE’s First Hospital-Based Vertiport
Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi and Archer Aviation Inc. (NYSE: ACHR) have announced a collaboration to create the UAE's first hospital-based vertiport. This facility will provide direct access for eVTOL (electric vertical takeoff and landing) aircraft to the hospital, significantly cutting travel time compared to traditional ground transport. The initiative aims to facilitate quick journeys from Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi to nearby areas.
Archer Aviation is set to support Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi in enhancing its current helipad. This upgrade will accommodate both traditional helicopters and eVTOL aircraft, marking a significant step in Archer's plan to launch commercial operations in Abu Dhabi. The partnership also explores non-emergency passenger use cases and urgent organ transport using Archer’s Midnight electric aircraft.

The Midnight aircraft can carry up to four passengers with reduced noise and emissions compared to conventional helicopters. It will utilise a planned passenger-carrying cabin configuration for various purposes. Bryan Bernhard, Chief Growth & Infrastructure Officer at Archer, stated, "This partnership showcases the breadth of Archer’s network vision - connecting not just places, but pillars of life in Abu Dhabi."
Earlier this year, Archer received approval for its first hybrid vertiport at the Abu Dhabi Cruise Terminal. This new location highlights the collaboration between Archer and the GCAA to develop a city-wide ecosystem for advanced air mobility. The project aligns with Abu Dhabi's strategic vision for modern transportation solutions.
Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi is renowned globally for its exceptional healthcare services and is a major hub for medical tourism in the region. The introduction of this vertiport is expected to improve access for patients and visitors alike. Dr. Georges-Pascal Haber, CEO of Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi, expressed enthusiasm about the partnership with Archer.
Dr. Haber remarked, "This new mode of emission-free transport aligns with Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi’s commitment to sustainability, gives additional options to many patients travelling to our hospital for care, and provides our thriving organ transplant program with fast logistics." The vertiport will enhance patient-centered care by offering sustainable travel options.
Regulatory Framework and Future Plans
Archer’s launch network in the UAE leverages the GCAA’s regulatory framework for hybrid vertiports. This framework allows simultaneous operations of conventional helicopters and eVTOL aircraft on shared infrastructure. Archer intends to continue partnering with key institutions across Abu Dhabi to convert existing helipads into certified vertiports.
This initiative represents a significant advancement in integrating advanced air mobility within urban infrastructure. By collaborating with leading organisations, Archer aims to contribute towards a more connected and efficient transportation network in the capital city.
