A recent report revealed that there were 464.7 million podcast listeners in 2023, with 5 million podcasts and 70 million podcast episodes published worldwide. Global estimates predict that the number of podcast listeners will exceed 500 million by the end of 2024.The Dubai Press Club study was based on responses to an online questionnaire targeting 60 podcasters in the Arab world. The study's quantitative component informed its qualitative aspect, which included a focus group of 16 prominent Arab podcasters from 11 Arab countries. The study found that 80 percent of participants considered podcasts delivered in Arabic to have more influence in terms of reach in the Arab world compared to those delivered in English. Additionally, 78 percent believed that podcasts delivered in local Arabic dialects were more influential than those in standard Arabic.The report anticipates a significant rise in podcast listeners in the Arab world, particularly in the Gulf region, with the UAE leading in podcast listening hours.
