Careem CarSharing Service Takes Off In Riyadh, Soon To Expand Within The Kingdom
Careem, widely recognised as Saudi Arabia's trusted platform for services including ride-hailing, food delivery, home cleaning, and Careem bike, is expanding its offerings. The app, often referred to as the Everything App, has introduced CarSharing in a strategic collaboration with ekar. This new service aims to provide a more sustainable mode of transport for travellers in Riyadh, permitting instant access to a range of vehicles for hire.
Whether users need a car for running errands for just an hour, require a vehicle for several days, or even wish to rent for several weeks, the flexibility of the service caters to all durations. The fleet offers a variety of options to suit different needs, including SUVs, family cars, and sedans, ensuring that every traveller finds the ideal vehicle for their journey.
The booking process is designed to be straightforward, featuring keyless entry and the flexibility of choosing both start and end locations to streamline the user experience. Payments are conveniently handled through Careem Pay, further simplifying the process for users.
Abdulla Elyas, Co-Founder and Saudi Chairman at Careem, expressed enthusiasm about the launch, emphasizing the company's commitment to simplifying and improving lives. "Careem is driven by a purpose to simplify and improve lives, and we're thrilled to have simplified mobility for millions in Saudi Arabia through ride-hailing and our new Careem Bike network," Elyas stated. He further highlighted the sustainability and cost-efficiency benefits of car sharing, underscoring its role in reducing the number of vehicles required to meet the transportation needs of cities.
This collaboration is not the first of its kind in the region. In 2022, ekar introduced a peer-to-peer carsharing service in Saudi Arabia, establishing itself as a pioneer in flexible urban mobility solutions. Additionally, Careem expanded its services earlier in 2024 to facilitate seamless transportation for railway passengers between the North and East lines of the Kingdom, underscoring its commitment to enhancing transportation infrastructure and accessibility. Now, the collaboration between Careem and ekar brings a new dimension to travel options in Saudi Arabia, with the launch of a CarSharing service in Riyadh.
Currently, the CarSharing service by Careem is exclusive to residents and visitors in Riyadh. However, plans are underway to extend this service to other cities across the Kingdom. This expansion is anticipated to be particularly beneficial for those planning day trips, especially as the long Eid weekend approaches, offering an innovative and flexible transportation solution.
