Experts Highlight Importance Of Embracing AI Technology At Arab Media Forum Session

The Arab Media Forum recently hosted a session titled "AI: Secret Weapon or Your Worst Nightmare?" which captivated attendees. This event highlighted Dubai's and the UAE's renewed focus on leveraging AI technology. Dr. Marwan Alzarooni, CEO of Artificial Intelligence at Dubai's Department of Economy and Tourism, and Hamad Al Shirawi, Director of Projects at Dubai Future Foundation, were key speakers.

Dr. Alzarooni began by dispelling doubts about AI's impact, asserting, "AI is here to stay." He emphasised that the UAE is making significant strides in adopting AI, marking only the beginning of this journey. He noted that economic initiatives are creating a value chain for media content creators.

Dubai is witnessing tangible benefits from AI across government sectors such as healthcare, property technology, logistics, and sustainable manufacturing. Dr. Alzarooni pointed out that the gap between AI users and non-users is widening. Users gain more detailed content on a larger scale.

He also mentioned the concept of ‘vibe coding,’ where small startups can operate with minimal overheads due to AI efficiencies. The disparity between those who adopt AI and those who don't will continue to grow.

Al Shirawi highlighted Dubai’s commitment to embracing AI by collaborating with public entities to identify optimal use cases. He cited Dubai Police’s use of AI to improve lost-and-found case resolutions by 300 percent as an example of its effectiveness.

He reassured that concerns about AI are similar to those faced when the internet emerged. Initially feared for potential job losses, people eventually adapted to it. The focus remains on involving people in these technological changes.

Opportunities for Upskilling

Dr. Alzarooni encouraged individuals to seize opportunities for upskilling through online resources available in the UAE. He stressed that it's never too late to join the AI wave and make the most of it in all life aspects.

The One Million Prompters initiative exemplifies Dubai’s readiness to lead in AI adoption by empowering experts based on successful use cases from different sectors.

Al Shirawi concluded by stating that AI has transitioned from being a secret weapon to an essential tool everyone should utilise. Ignoring its potential could lead to adverse outcomes.
