Breast Imaging Annual Meeting In Dubai Showcases AI Innovations And Advances In Early Cancer Detection
The Breast Imaging 1st Annual Meeting 2025 in Dubai focused on innovations in breast cancer screening. Experts shared insights on the latest technologies for early diagnosis. The event, themed "Highlighting Current Practice and a New Era in Breast Cancer Screening," attracted key figures from the healthcare sector.
Prominent attendees included Prof. Humaid Al Shamsi, President of the Emirates Oncology Society, and Dr. Omar Al Marzouqi, Executive Director of Dubai Hospital. Dr. Taleb Mohammed Al Mansoori, President of the Radiological Society of Emirates (RSE), and other notable professionals also participated.

Discussions at the meeting highlighted advancements in mammography systems, such as 3D Tomosynthesis and Contrast-Enhanced Mammography (CEM). These technologies are particularly effective for detecting abnormalities in dense breasts and high-risk groups.
AI integration into mammography and ultrasound systems was a key topic. Experts noted that AI enhances physicians' ability to differentiate between benign and malignant lesions, reducing unnecessary biopsies. AI also acts as a "second reader" for radiology reports to ensure accuracy.
Workshops demonstrated advanced biopsy techniques like Vacuum-Assisted Biopsy (VAB). This method improves diagnostic precision and can remove small tumors entirely, potentially eliminating surgery needs. It is vital for evaluating "undetermined lesions" that might become malignant.
Dr. Nehad Kazim Al Bastaki, Chair of the Breast Imaging Annual Meeting, emphasized the event's role in addressing real-world challenges in breast imaging. She stated: "The event is organised under the newly appointed board of Emirates Breast Imaging Club, led by Emirati professionals in collaboration with outstanding colleague expertise across the UAE, united by a shared vision of excellence in breast imaging and intervention."
Future Plans and Expansion
The meeting featured expert lectures, scientific research presentations, panel discussions, and hands-on workshops on modern biopsy techniques. Due to its success, plans are underway to expand it into a two-day conference next year.
Dr. Alia Al Sayegh highlighted the importance of creating platforms for collaboration among local and international physicians. She said: "Our goal was to build a scientific hub that brings together experts to explore the latest advances in breast imaging." Attendance exceeded expectations, indicating a strong regional need for such platforms.
A scientific research competition involved students and academics from various institutions. Additionally, an exhibition showcased innovations from over ten leading global medical technology companies dedicated to advancing early breast cancer diagnosis.
