Borouge And Mubadala Bio Sign Agreement To Strengthen UAE’s Healthcare And Life Sciences Sectors
Borouge, a prominent petrochemicals company known for its innovative polyolefin solutions, has entered into a strategic partnership with Mubadala Bio. This life sciences firm is focused on enhancing health outcomes in the UAE and beyond. The collaboration aims to supply polyolefin materials for local medical product manufacturing, boosting the UAE's healthcare and life sciences sectors.
The agreement was formalised during the "Make it in the Emirates" event, which promotes industrial growth and innovation. Hazeem Sultan Al Suwaidi, CEO of Borouge, and Hamad Husein Almarzooqi, Deputy CEO of Mubadala Bio, signed the agreement. Dr. Sultan bin Ahmed Al Jaber and other key figures witnessed the signing ceremony.

Hazeem Al Suwaidi expressed enthusiasm about the partnership with Mubadala Bio. He stated that it aligns with the "Make it in the Emirates" initiative by combining UAE's scientific innovation with regional insights. This collaboration aims to develop smarter and safer medical products for patients and clinicians across the Middle East.
Ismail Ali Abdulla from Mubadala highlighted their commitment to building a sustainable life sciences sector through advanced local manufacturing. He emphasised that working with local partners will enhance UAE-made product manufacturing, supporting national goals and improving essential health product delivery locally and internationally.
Borouge's first healthcare product, Bormed RG868MO, is produced using Borealis’ Borstar technology. This product offers transparency and mechanical strength while meeting sterilisation standards. It is suitable for pharmaceutical packaging and medical devices such as syringes and inhalers.
This product is already being manufactured at Borouge’s facility in Al Ruwais Industrial City, Abu Dhabi. It marks a significant milestone as it's the first time such a product has been made for healthcare applications within the UAE.
Sustainability and Future Plans
Borouge plans to introduce another healthcare product by year-end, expanding its presence in the Middle East market. This aligns with their commitment to sustainability and innovation by reducing production cycle times through faster processing methods.
The new healthcare solution also offers an estimated carbon footprint reduction of 5 - 10%, demonstrating Borouge’s dedication to environmentally friendly practices while advancing their healthcare portfolio.
