Brandan Greene Advocates For A Human-Centric 3D Internet At BRIDGE Summit 2025

At the BRIDGE Summit 2025, a significant call to action was made by Brandan Greene, the creator of one of the most successful video games in history. He urged for a transformation of the internet into a 3D space that prioritises trust, creativity, and human connection. Greene, known as "PlayerUnknown," emphasised the need for an "open, shared, human-scale layer" online.

Greene's vision involves creating a vast, open 3D layer of the internet that fosters imagination and connection. He criticised current metaverse efforts as resembling "isolated theme parks" that fail to capture real-life openness and unpredictability. His ambition is to build a digital space where creativity can flourish without corporate constraints.

Call for a Human-Centric 3D Internet

During his presentation, Greene questioned whether we are ready to rebuild the internet in 3D and set it free. He described the metaverse as "the internet, but in 3D," advocating for virtual spaces that enhance real life rather than restrict it. Current digital environments often miss this fundamental aspect of human interaction.

Reflecting on PUBG's success, Greene noted that its impact goes beyond revenue figures. The game has generated over $25 billion but more importantly, it has shown that people crave connection and shared experiences. "People don’t just want content. They want each other," he stated.

Greene outlined his team's three-phase plan at PlayerUnknown Productions. It starts with developing technology capable of generating entire virtual planets on a single GPU. This will be followed by creating a network protocol to support millions of simultaneous players. His vision is for shared digital infrastructure built for humanity rather than profit-driven corporate silos.

His current work is supported by a diverse team of 65 experts including astrophysicists and engineers. They are deploying breakthrough terrain-generation technology in real time with their first game offering early access to this vision. "We are not building another game," he explained, "but a foundational layer of a connected 3D internet."

Collaboration and Ambition

Greene concluded his talk by appealing to creators, technologists, policymakers, and institutions to join him in building an open internet layer for everyone. He highlighted the UAE's spirit of bold ambition as an inspiration for this endeavour: "We are seeking partners who believe the next layer of the Internet must belong to everyone—open, shared, and built for human connection."

The BRIDGE Summit 2025 features over 300 sessions reflecting its scale and ambition under the BRIDGE Alliance mandate. The event takes place from December 8 to 10 at ADNEC in Abu Dhabi.
