Big 5 Liveable Cities Summit To Showcase Innovative Architecture And Design From American University Of Sharjah

The College of Architecture, Art and Design (CAAD) at the American University of Sharjah (AUS) is set to present an exhibition titled "Crafting the Future: CAAD at Big 5" during the Liveable Cities Summit. This event is part of Big 5 Global in Dubai, scheduled from 26–28 November. The exhibition will be located at stand No- Z6 F70.

Visitors will have the chance to see innovative projects from AUS’s Design Build Initiative and Six Degrees, CAAD’s annual showcase for architecture, design, and urban planning graduates. This exhibition aims to highlight emerging ideas from UAE's future architects and designers. It is tailored for industry professionals attending Big 5, a major global construction event.

AUS Showcases Design Talent at Big 5 Summit

The exhibition will display a variety of creative solutions addressing urbanisation, sustainability, and livability challenges. These designs demonstrate CAAD's commitment to advancing architecture and design. The works provide insights into future cities through the lens of recent graduates' perspectives.

Dr. Varkki Pallathucheril, Dean of CAAD, stated, "The exhibition at the Liveable Cities Summit highlights the exceptional work from our students, alumni and faculty, demonstrating the breadth of talent and creativity that defines CAAD." He expressed gratitude to Big 5 for offering this platform to engage with industry leaders.

AUS faculty members will participate in panels at both the Liveable Cities Summit and Everything Architecture conferences within Big 5 Global. Associate Professor Jason Carlow will discuss "Compact Urbanism: Designing for Density in the 21st Century," while Professor Jerry Kolo will address "Revolutionising Urban Planning: The Role of Tech Companies in Shaping Future Cities."

At Everything Architecture, Associate Professor Camilo Cerro will delve into "The Technological Transformation of Architectural Spaces." Additionally, Sheikh Sultan Sooud Al-Qassemi will present "Archiving the Last Boomtown" as part of the Liveable Cities Lightning Talks series.

Recognition and Opportunities for Graduates

Sheikh Sultan Sooud Al-Qassemi noted that CAAD's inclusion in the summit reflects its international recognition for academic excellence over 25 years. He said, "Being invited to showcase at Big 5 provides AUS graduates with the exposure and recognition they deserve." This opportunity helps graduates contribute globally to discussions on future cities.

The exhibition not only showcases student talent but also features faculty research from AUS’s award-winning Design Build Initiative. This initiative offers students a comprehensive studio experience unique to the region.
