UAE: BEEAH And Greenthesis Partner For PE Film Recycling Facility In Sharjah

BEEAH, a leader in sustainability and innovation, has partnered with Greenthesis, an Italian expert in industrial waste management, to establish the Middle East's first polyethylene (PE) film recycling facility.

This facility will be located in BEEAH’s integrated waste management complex in Sharjah's Al Sajaa area. The initiative aims to address the recycling challenges of PE film, a lightweight plastic often used in packaging. This initiative not only tackles difficult-to-recycle waste but also demonstrates a model for future zero-waste cities. It showcases how collaboration can drive positive impact through shared innovation and vision.

The new plant will process over 7,000 tonnes of plastic waste each year. It will convert hard-to-recycle PE films from municipal and commercial sources into durable boards. These boards will serve as a sustainable plywood alternative for construction projects. The process is advanced and chemical-free, ensuring environmental safety.

Khaled Al Huraimel, Group CEO and Vice Chairman of BEEAH, highlighted the importance of this collaboration. He stated that it represents a crucial step in addressing unresolved issues in integrated waste management. "Our collaboration with Greenthesis Group marks a pivotal step in tackling challenges that are yet to be solved in integrated waste management," he said.

Simona Grossi, CEO of Greenthesis, expressed pride in the joint venture's potential to innovate within the circular economy. She noted their extensive experience would complement BEEAH’s leadership in the Middle East. "We are very proud to be able to dedicate a joint venture to the study, introduction and development of innovative technologies in the field of circular economy," she added.

The facility aims to transform PE film into sustainable plywood alternatives, supporting green infrastructure while preserving natural resources. By reducing landfill dependency and enhancing resource efficiency, this project aligns with BEEAH’s goal of achieving zero-waste cities.

The recycled boards can be reused multiple times and reprocessed into new boards once their lifespan ends. This promotes a fully circular recycling system that offers a cost-effective solution for industries seeking long-lasting materials.

BEEAH and Greenthesis will utilise their combined expertise through their B&A Waste Management joint venture. This partnership has already successfully managed major industrial waste projects across the UAE, including soil remediation efforts.

This cooperation agreement on the PE film facility signifies progress in their partnership and reinforces BEEAH’s leadership in resource recovery and innovation throughout the UAE and beyond.
