Sharjah Ruler Attends AUS-AUC Memorandum Of Understanding Signing Ceremony
His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, was present at the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the American University of Sharjah (AUS) and the American University in Cairo (AUC). The event took place on Thursday morning. Upon his arrival at the university campus, His Highness received a warm welcome from Sheikha Bodour bint Sultan Al Qasimi, President of AUS, Mark Turnage, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of AUC, and several senior officials from both universities.
The MoU was signed by Dr. Tod A. Laursen, Chancellor of AUS, and Dr. Ahmed Dallal, President of AUC. This agreement aims to foster collaboration in various academic and strategic areas such as faculty and student exchanges, joint research projects, and coordinated research grant applications. Additionally, it seeks to facilitate joint supervision of graduate students’ theses.
The partnership signifies a strategic alliance between two prestigious institutions committed to advancing higher education through global collaboration. Key areas include faculty exchanges, joint research efforts, dual degree programmes, and benchmarking strategies. The MoU outlines plans for developing dual degree programmes and short-term academic offerings while organising international workshops, conferences, and seminars.
Both universities will share institutional data for strategic benchmarking purposes. They will also provide mutual access to library resources within copyright guidelines and offer training and consulting services. Through this memorandum, both parties aspire to create a robust platform for innovation, talent development, and substantial academic impact.
During the signing event discussions focused on enhancing academic and research cooperation between the universities. Participants highlighted the importance of expanding partnerships in education, training, and innovation to forge new avenues for collaboration. They aim to improve academic programmes while exchanging expertise and knowledge.
The Ruler of Sharjah exchanged commemorative gifts with the AUC delegation in appreciation of His Highness' warm hospitality. This gesture also recognised his unwavering support for educational advancement along with scientific research.
This agreement sets a model that showcases the role regional universities can play in shaping the future of education. By establishing this partnership both institutions aim to create an environment conducive to innovation and talent development while making a significant academic impact.
