Artificial Intelligence Programme Launches Sixth Cohort In Partnership With University Of Birmingham
The Artificial Intelligence Programme has commenced its sixth cohort, involving 77 participants from both government and private sectors. This initiative is designed to equip a new generation in the UAE with advanced skills in artificial intelligence and emerging technologies, supporting the nation's digital transformation goals. The programme aims to position the UAE as a global leader in technology and innovation, aligning with its future aspirations.
The launch event, organised by the National Programme for Artificial Intelligence in partnership with the University of Birmingham, included a panel discussion featuring several Chief AI Officers from the UAE government. These officers included Eng. Amal Abdulrahim from the Ministry of Climate Change and Environment, Ahmed Al Hawqani from the General Civil Aviation Authority, and Ahmed Al Ali from the Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure. Marwa Al Shaibani moderated this session.

The Chief AI Officers shared their experiences within the programme, highlighting its role in enhancing their skills and expertise in emerging fields and leadership areas. They noted how it broadened their strategic thinking and improved their ability to create AI-based solutions that advance their respective sectors. The programme serves as a platform for empowerment and networking with experts and decision-makers.
Dr. Abdulrahman Al Mahmoud, Director at the Artificial Intelligence, Digital Economy, and Remote Work Applications Office, emphasised that AI programmes are essential for nurturing talent and developing expertise. He stated that building technological skills is key to fostering strategic thinking that drives innovation. By connecting talents on a knowledge platform, ambitions can be transformed into pioneering projects supporting digital transformation.
This cohort includes new participants such as the National Emergency Crisis and Disaster Management Authority; Abu Dhabi Emergency, Crisis, and Disaster Management Centre; Dubai Corporation for Ambulance Services; Dubai Electronic Security Centre; Sharjah Police; and NMDC Group. The programme introduces concepts of artificial intelligence and generative AI while addressing future challenges in vital sectors.
In previous cohorts, over 370 employees from more than 100 entities have graduated from this programme. These graduates hold leadership roles within their organisations, including Chief AI Officer positions. Participants have developed various innovative projects in AI applications, enhancing capabilities to realise aspirations by leveraging advanced technological infrastructure.

The programme also focuses on exploring AI trends and applying large language models to innovate solutions for security challenges. It highlights rapid global developments in AI while addressing opportunities in vital sectors. This initiative provides participants with tools to transform ideas into impactful projects within the digital transformation ecosystem.
