Aramco, one of the world’s leading integrated energy and chemical companies, has entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with King Abdullah University of Science and Technology (KAUST). This aims to support research that promises both environmental and commercial benefits.

Aramco has committed up to $100 million over the next decade to fund various research and development projects at KAUST. These funds will be allocated to a broad spectrum of initiatives, ranging from fundamental research to applied technologies, as KAUST strives to advance science and innovation.

Amin Nasser, President & CEO of Aramco, stated: "This collaboration will further deepen Aramco's relationship with KAUST and we look forward to exploring new possibilities and frontiers with a strong focus on R&D and technology development, reflecting our firm belief in the importance of innovation across industries and applications."

Tony Chan, President of KAUST, remarked: "The partnership exemplifies KAUST's dedication to fostering impactful research that drives technological advancements and addresses real-world challenges. Our collaboration with Aramco will leverage our combined expertise to develop innovative solutions for a sustainable future."

The collaboration will cover several key areas including the energy transition, sustainability, materials transition, upstream technologies, and digital solutions. The emphasis will be on developing commercially-viable outcomes from these research efforts.

In the realm of energy transition, topics such as liquids-to-chemicals conversion, future refineries research, and low-carbon aviation fuels have been identified as focal points. These areas are crucial for advancing cleaner energy solutions.

Sustainability research under this partnership will encompass hydrogen production, carbon capture and storage technologies, renewable energy sources, and energy storage solutions. These initiatives aim to address pressing environmental challenges.

Additional projects are anticipated to delve into advanced carbon materials and geothermal energy among other innovative fields. These efforts are expected to contribute significantly to sustainable development goals.
