Arab Women Basketball At AWST 2026: Seven Teams Compete Across Six Arab Countries In Sharjah

Basketball will again take centre stage at the Arab Women Sports Tournament (AWST 2026), with competition tipping off on Tuesday, February 3. Organised by Sharjah Women’s Sports, the event runs from February 2 to 12 and highlights the growing strength of women’s basketball in the Arab region.

The eighth AWST 2026 brings together 63 club teams from 16 Arab countries, competing in nine sports. Basketball is one of the most followed disciplines, with seven clubs from six nations, underlining strong regional interest and the rising competitive standards among women’s basketball teams across Arab leagues.

They line up alongside Al Fatat Sports Club from Kuwait, Al Hala Club from the Kingdom of Bahrain, Shabab Fuheis Club from Jordan, Ghaz Al Shamal Club from Iraq, and Al Amal Sports Club – Al Watan Al Qibli from Tunisia.

Basketball matches at the Arab Women Sports Tournament AWST 2026 will be played at Al Bataeh Cultural and Sports Club. The venue can host more than 500 spectators. Official training will be split between the club’s facilities and Al Riqa Children’s Centre, giving teams access to dedicated courts and support services throughout the competition period.

His Excellency Mohammed Abdullah bin Halis Al Ketbi, Chairman of Al Bataeh Cultural and Sports Club, expressed pride in hosting the basketball fixtures and pointed to the club’s readiness. The venue will also stage community activities that highlight local culture, adding a social dimension around the scheduled games and reflecting Sharjah’s wider engagement with sport.
