Arab Parliament Welcomes UN General Assembly Resolutions Supporting Palestinian Self-Determination And Rights
The United Nations General Assembly recently passed several resolutions supporting the Palestinian cause, receiving overwhelming approval. These resolutions include affirming the Palestinian people's right to self-determination and establishing an independent state with Jerusalem as its capital. The renewal of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) mandate was also welcomed, ensuring continued humanitarian aid for millions of Palestinian refugees.
Mohammed bin Ahmed Al-Yammahi, President of the Arab Parliament, expressed gratitude to countries that supported these resolutions. He highlighted that this international backing reflects a commitment to international legitimacy and a rejection of illegal actions by the Israeli occupation, such as annexation and settlement expansion. Al-Yammahi stated, "The adoption of these resolutions represents an important step toward strengthening international efforts to stop the aggression against the Gaza Strip and protect civilians, and it paves the way for more effective international action to end the occupation and achieve a just and lasting peace in accordance with UN resolutions and the Arab Peace Initiative."

The Speaker emphasised that this broad support from the international community is crucial. It demonstrates a collective stance against practices like forced displacement and ethnic cleansing. Al-Yammahi acknowledged these measures as vital steps towards halting aggression in Gaza and safeguarding civilians. He believes they lay groundwork for more effective global actions aimed at ending occupation and achieving lasting peace.
Al-Yammahi affirmed that the Arab Parliament remains committed to parliamentary diplomacy. They will continue engaging regionally and internationally to gather more support for Palestine. Their goal is to defend Palestinian rights in all global forums until Palestinians achieve freedom and establish a fully sovereign state with Jerusalem as its capital.
The renewal of UNRWA's mandate ensures ongoing humanitarian services across its operational areas. This decision is crucial for maintaining support for millions of Palestinian refugees who rely on these services. The Arab Parliament's dedication to mobilising further backing highlights their commitment to defending Palestinian rights globally.
This recent development underscores a significant step forward in addressing issues faced by Palestinians. By reaffirming their right to self-determination, it strengthens international efforts towards achieving peace based on UN resolutions and initiatives like the Arab Peace Initiative.
