Arab League Recognises Fujairah Crown Prince With Leading Arab Personality Award For Sustainable Development Efforts

The League of Arab States, led by Secretary-General Ahmed Aboul Gheit, recognised H.H. Sheikh Mohammed bin Hamad Al Sharqi, Crown Prince of Fujairah, with the Leading Arab Personality Award in Sustainable Development. This accolade was presented during the Arab Sustainability Day 2025 event at the League's headquarters in Cairo. The theme focused on raising awareness about sustainability's significance in the Arab region.

Ahmed Aboul Gheit opened the ceremony by highlighting the importance of Arab Sustainability Day. He stressed that it underscores the need to promote sustainable development concepts and balance economic, social, and environmental dimensions. This is crucial given the growing challenges and rapid changes across various fields in the Arab world.

Ambassador Dr. Nada Al-Ajezi, Director of Sustainable Development and International Cooperation at the Arab League, explained that Arab Sustainability Day serves as a media platform. It highlights achievements by Arab countries and stakeholders in implementing the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals. The day aims to foster an environment supportive of these efforts by facilitating knowledge exchange and sharing best practices.

H.H. Sheikh Mohammed bin Hamad Al Sharqi delivered a keynote speech at the event. He stated, "In today's world, amid constant changes and challenges, we stand before one responsibility and one goal—to work earnestly together toward implementing the best environmental practices and achieving sustainable development goals in key vital sectors that serve people, empower them, and contribute to improving their quality of life."

His Highness emphasised that environmental sustainability is a top priority for the UAE's future vision and national development strategies. He noted its pivotal role in ensuring stability for individuals, empowering communities, and supporting economic growth. The UAE continues its efforts in environmental action both regionally and internationally.

He also highlighted directives from H.H. Sheikh Hamad bin Mohammed Al Sharqi regarding Fujairah’s comprehensive government vision. Environmental sustainability is a key pillar in strategic sectors like mining, oil industry, ship bunkering, and marine ecosystem conservation to protect fish resources.

Strategic Partnerships for Sustainable Development

H.H. praised the Arab League's efforts in organising Arab Sustainability Day 2025 as a significant event addressing environmental sustainability issues. It seeks solutions while opening new horizons for strategic partnerships and pioneering projects at both Arab and global levels to achieve sustainable development goals.

The event included signing several cooperation agreements between Fujairah's Government and the League of Arab States. Distinguished individuals were honoured for their regional impact on sustainability efforts.

The ceremony was attended by notable figures such as Mohammed Al Yamahi, President of the Arab Parliament; Ahmed Hamdan Al Zeyoudi, Director of the Crown Prince of Fujairah's Office; Hamdan Karam Al Kaabi, Director of the Private Office of the Crown Prince; and Eng. Aseela Al Mualla from Fujairah Environment Authority.
