Al Dhafra To Host First Tech-Enabled Diabetes Facility For Enhanced Patient Care
In a significant development for healthcare in the UAE, the Imperial College London Diabetes Centre (ICLDC), a part of the M42 group, has announced the opening of a new facility in Madinat Zayed, Al Dhafra. This initiative marks a regional first, establishing a dedicated one-stop centre aimed at providing comprehensive care for individuals suffering from diabetes and endocrine disorders. Slated to commence operations in the latter half of this year, this advanced facility is poised to serve over 6,000 diabetes patients in the region, significantly reducing their travel time by more than 75 percent.
The establishment of this new centre is a testament to ICLDC's commitment to bringing world-class, tech-enabled healthcare solutions closer to the community. Currently, the flagship centre in Abu Dhabi city caters to approximately 9 percent of Al Dhafra's diabetic population. The expansion into Madinat Zayed is set to broaden access to quality care for residents across Al Dhafra, including those in Liwa, Mirfa, Gayathi, Ruwais, and Tarif.

Hasan Jasem Al Nowais, Managing Director and Group Chief Executive Officer of M42, emphasized the organization's dedication to delivering premium health solutions that empower individuals to take control of their health. "Expanding our one-stop services to Al Dhafra presents an opportunity to serve a much greater number of UAE residents with an innovative model that provides premium, tech-enabled health solutions that result in tangible positive clinical outcomes," he stated.
ICLDC's approach to diabetes prevention and management has been instrumental in improving health outcomes across the UAE. Over nearly two decades, the centre has achieved significant reductions in HbA1c levels among its patients. From an average of 9.5 percent, levels have dropped to an impressive 7.2 percent. Remarkably, 57 percent of ICLDC’s patients now have HbA1c results below 7 percent, surpassing the international benchmark of 38 percent.
The new Al Dhafrah ICLDC centre will feature the latest in diagnostic and management facilities, supported by a world-class multi-specialty team. It will offer specialized outpatient services for diabetes and endocrine-related complications. Dr. Mai Al Jaber, Chief Executive Officer of ICLDC, expressed her commitment to serving the Al Dhafra population. "Today, the need for accessible and comprehensive diabetes care has never been more apparent. Serving more of the Al Dhafra population is an honour and a duty we are fully committed to," she remarked.
With this expansion, ICLDC's Madinat Zayed facility will become the fourth dedicated centre in the UAE, complementing its satellite clinic based in Mubadala Health Dubai. This network aims to offer integrated diabetes and endocrine treatment services across the country. The patient journey at the new clinic will encompass comprehensive services from registration through consultations to pharmacy support, ensuring a seamless experience for all who seek care.
In addition to clinical care, ICLDC is set to continue its extensive community outreach programme. This initiative includes workshops, health screenings, and educational programmes for schools and organisations. It also promotes an active lifestyle and healthy eating habits as preventive measures against Type 2 diabetes.
The opening of ICLDC's facility in Madinat Zayed represents a significant milestone in enhancing healthcare accessibility and quality for diabetes and endocrine patients in the UAE. By bringing advanced care closer to home for thousands of residents, ICLDC reaffirms its role as a leader in diabetes management and prevention within the region.
