Al Ain Dates Festival Begins Under The Patronage Of Sheikh Mansour Bin Zayed Al Nahyan
The Al Ain Dates Festival commenced under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Vice President, Deputy Prime Minister, and Chairman of the Presidential Court. The festival is taking place in Al Ain and will run until January 8. On its opening day, 2,025 kilograms of dates were submitted by 27 participants for the "Elite Al Ain" competition.
In addition to the competition entries, 600 boxes containing a total of 2,000 kilograms of dates were presented for a date auction. The Abu Dhabi Heritage Authority organises this event to emphasise the palm tree's historical significance as a symbol of Emirati heritage. It aims to increase awareness about UAE traditions and cultural practices.
The festival also seeks to promote Al Ain City's historical importance and its cultural, economic, and agricultural potential. Attendees can enjoy various activities beyond competitions, including a lively date auction, exploring date shops, and visiting a traditional market.
Seven distinct date competitions form the core of the festival's activities. These competitions feature different varieties: Al Ain Elite, Khalas, Fard, Dabbas, Bumaan, Sheeshi, and Zamli. Participants will compete for a share of 70 prizes worth AED 1.756 million collectively.
The festival's opening was graced by several dignitaries and prominent figures from Al Ain. Among them were Faris Khalaf Al Mazrouei, Chairman of Abu Dhabi Heritage Authority; Dr Mugheer Khamis Al Khaili, Chairman of the Department of Community Development in Abu Dhabi; and Abdullah Mubarak Al Muhairi, Director-General of the Abu Dhabi Heritage Authority.
The event highlights not only the cultural aspects but also aims to boost economic engagement through its various offerings. By showcasing these elements, it seeks to enhance appreciation for local traditions while fostering community involvement in preserving heritage.
This celebration underscores the importance of palm trees in Emirati culture while promoting regional development through agriculture and tourism. The festival serves as a platform for participants to showcase their produce and engage with others in the industry.
