Airport Show 2025 To Showcase Innovations In Ground Support Equipment Technologies For Global Airports

The 24th edition of the Airport Show is scheduled from 6th to 8th May at the Dubai World Trade Centre. This event will showcase cutting-edge ground handling technologies aimed at enhancing global airport services, profitability, and adherence to international standards for reducing carbon emissions. It is held under the patronage of H.H. Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, a prominent figure in Dubai's aviation sector.

More than 130 exhibitors from 22 countries will participate, displaying advancements in ground handling services. The exhibition will feature several pavilions, including those dedicated to ground handling equipment and airport technology, supported by dnata. Specialised conferences such as the Global Airport Leaders Forum and the Women in Aviation Middle East Conference are also part of the event.

Airport Show 2025 Highlights Ground Support Innovations

Airports in the region are investing significantly in infrastructure improvements and modern facilities. A key focus is on acquiring electric ground support equipment, aligning with sustainability goals and carbon emission reduction efforts. This sector plays a crucial role in enhancing airport performance and profitability while preparing for increased passenger numbers.

Mai Ismail, Events Director at RX Global, noted that airports are adopting innovative ground handling solutions to achieve faster turnaround times and improved safety standards. She highlighted the shift towards battery-powered vehicles to reduce emissions. "Electric ground handling equipment has revolutionised operations by offering cleaner technologies," she said.

Jafar Dawood, Divisional Senior Vice President for UAE Airport Operations at dnata, emphasised their strategy to phase out diesel engines in favour of electric or hybrid options. "We have converted our entire non-electric fleet in Dubai to biodiesel," he stated, reinforcing dnata's commitment to halving its carbon footprint by 2030.

The International Air Transport Association (IATA) advocated for improved electrical equipment in 2022 to boost cost efficiency and safety. In June 2024, dnata launched an initiative through the Enhanced Recognition Programme to accelerate equipment adoption, honouring ground handlers leading fleet modernisation efforts.

Market Growth Projections

The market for electric ground handling services is projected to expand from 38,592 units in 2024 to 44,761 units by 2029. The global industry size is expected to reach US$17.44 billion by 2032. Over 130 airports worldwide have pledged to fully decarbonise emissions by 2030.

Adam Vaile from Vanderlande mentioned that their company will present its latest technological advancements at the show. He highlighted benefits related to baggage and passenger operations as key areas of focus during their participation.

This year's Airport Show promises significant insights into sustainable practices and technological innovations shaping the future of aviation globally.
