Ahmed Bin Mohammed Launches Committees To Advance Film And Gaming Sectors In Dubai
H.H. Sheikh Ahmed bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Second Deputy Ruler of Dubai and Chairman of the Dubai Media Council (DMC), has initiated two new committees to boost the film and gaming sectors in Dubai. These committees are part of a broader strategy to enhance media innovation and strengthen Dubai's global media presence.
The Dubai Film Development Committee, led by Issam Kazim, and the Dubai Gaming Committee, chaired by Khalfan Belhoul, were established under Resolutions No. 8 and 9 of 2025. These resolutions are effective immediately. The committees aim to offer top-tier services and facilities to advance these sectors in Dubai.
H.H. Sheikh Ahmed emphasised that these initiatives will bolster the framework needed for growth in these strategic sectors. He highlighted Dubai's strong position for global leadership in these fields, thanks to its advanced digital infrastructure, flexible regulations, robust logistics, and strategic location connecting international markets.
Mona Ghanem Al Marri, Vice Chairperson and Managing Director of the DMC, remarked that forming these committees is a crucial step in enhancing Dubai's media ecosystem. She noted that this move aligns with efforts to nurture local talent and attract international expertise while keeping pace with industry evolution.
The committees will focus on enriching an integrated media ecosystem that boosts Dubai's competitiveness. This approach supports the goals of the Dubai Economic Agenda, D33, by positioning the creative economy at the centre of Dubai’s economic framework.
Operational Plans and Global Leadership
The new committees will deliver high-quality services aimed at cementing Dubai’s status as a global hub for media production. The Film Development Committee will support industry growth through tailored services, coordination with stakeholders, specialised training programmes for young filmmakers, and opportunities for emerging talent.
The Gaming Committee will foster partnerships and provide facilities to drive sector growth. It aims to empower young talent through training programmes while supporting start-ups' expansion. These efforts are designed to accelerate the digital economy and reinforce Dubai’s leadership in the gaming industry.
Committee Members and Responsibilities
The Film Development Committee includes members like Hesham Al Olama as Vice-Chairman, Jamal Al Sharif from the Dubai Development Authority, Shaima Al Suwaidi from the Culture and Arts Authority, among others from various key organisations. The Gaming Committee also features prominent members such as Ahmed AlKhaja from the Department of Economy and Tourism.
Both resolutions require full cooperation from all government entities and relevant organisations to provide necessary data or information for committee responsibilities. This cooperation is essential for fulfilling their mandates effectively.
H.H. Sheikh Ahmed stated that "Dubai’s media sector is entering a new era of growth shaped by innovation and global collaboration." He expressed confidence that with strategic initiatives and dedicated teams, Dubai will continue strengthening its position as a global centre for the digital economy.
