ADX Celebrates 25 Years Of Innovation And Economic Growth In Capital Markets

The Abu Dhabi Securities Exchange (ADX) Group marks its 25th anniversary, celebrating a quarter-century of innovation and resilience. Established in 2000, ADX has grown to be among the top 20 exchanges globally by market capitalisation. This reflects Abu Dhabi's vision and ADX's swift ascent as a leader in global capital markets.

Over the years, ADX has significantly shaped the UAE's financial landscape. From just 12 companies initially, it now lists over 200 securities. This growth has transformed ADX into a market exceeding 3 trillion dirhams, becoming a crucial part of Abu Dhabi’s economic framework. With investors from over 200 nationalities, ADX serves as a gateway for international capital.

This year, ADX established the ADX Group, which includes Abu Dhabi Clear and Abu Dhabi Central Securities Depository. This structure enhances market efficiency and prepares the exchange for future growth aligned with Abu Dhabi’s strategy to develop a world-class financial ecosystem. The focus is on expanding products and embracing technology.

Abdulla Salem Alnuaimi, CEO of the ADX Group, stated: "The past 25 years reflect a journey of resilience, innovation, and progress. In recent years, Abu Dhabi's capital markets have undergone significant changes. Since 2020, IPOs on ADX have raised about 59 billion dirhams due to strong economic fundamentals and investor demand. In 2023 alone, IPO proceeds reached around 18 billion dirhams globally. This momentum continued into 2024 with nearly 12.8 billion dirhams raised.

ADX-listed companies have contributed to national prosperity by distributing over 320 billion dirhams in cash dividends since 2020. This highlights the strength of Abu Dhabi’s corporates and ADX’s role in enabling investors to participate in the UAE’s economic growth through stable income and sustainable wealth creation.

Innovative Initiatives

Innovation is central to ADX’s strategy. Over time, it introduced regional firsts like exchange-traded funds and blockchain-enabled eVoting. Today, it continues advancing digital market infrastructure frameworks and next-generation trading technologies. These initiatives cement its status as a regional leader in modern trading solutions.

The Tabadul platform links six regional markets, enhancing cooperation and opening new channels for issuers and investors. This reinforces Abu Dhabi’s role as a hub for interconnected capital flows while strengthening regional integration through cross-border initiatives.

As ADX looks ahead to its next phase of development, it remains committed to deepening liquidity and enhancing digital infrastructure. Through advanced platforms and integrated systems, it aims to empower investors while adhering to world-class regulatory standards.

The Chairman of the Abu Dhabi Securities Exchange (ADX) Group, Ghannam Butti Al Mazrouei said during an organised ceremony that since its establishment in 2000: "The market has been a key pillar in supporting Abu Dhabi’s ambitious vision to build a diversified, sustainable and knowledge-based economy." He noted that Abu Dhabi Securities Exchange has witnessed remarkable development over the past years.

The introduction of the FTSE ADX Dividend Stars Index will highlight companies with strong dividend profiles as part of its Silver Jubilee celebrations. This initiative underscores ADX's commitment to supporting long-term wealth creation for investors through diverse investment opportunities.
