Abu Dhabi: Sovereign Wealth Fund ADQ To Manage DARB Toll Gate And Mawaqif Parking System

ADQ has assumed control over the management, operation, and development of Abu Dhabi's DARB toll system and Mawaqif parking system. This move is under the regulatory supervision of the Department of Municipalities and Transport, represented by Integrated Transport Centre (Abu Dhabi Mobility).

Under this new mandate, ADQ will ensure that both DARB and Mawaqif systems continue to deliver high-quality services to customers. The integration aims to leverage ADQ's transport and logistics portfolio to support a smart, safe, and sustainable transport network in Abu Dhabi.

Abdulla Al Marzouqi, Director General of the Integrated Transport Centre, remarked: "This step is part of our strategy to enhance partnerships with leading companies, improve the transportation system and develop the sector in Abu Dhabi. ITC will also work with ADQ to boost customer experience and ensure continuity of services."

DARB has been operational since 2021 and manages eight toll gates located at key bridges across Abu Dhabi. The toll system helps reduce congestion and encourages public transportation use. It was established to fulfil Abu Dhabi Government's goal of enhancing the city's global competitiveness through advanced mobility infrastructure.

Seamless Transition for DARB and Mawaqif

The transition to ADQ management will not disrupt the operations of DARB and Mawaqif. Both systems will continue offering their full range of services through their digital channels while remaining under the regulatory oversight of Abu Dhabi Mobility.

Mawaqif was launched in 2009 to provide structured public parking facilities in Abu Dhabi. The system is fully digitalised, allowing payments via mobile phones and integration with the DARB smart application.

Mansour AlMulla, Deputy Group Chief Executive Officer of ADQ, stated: "By expanding our portfolio with DARB and Mawaqif, we expect to generate significant synergies that will translate into sustainable financial returns, as well as an attractive proposition for commuters. As state-of-the-art systems solving urban mobility challenges, DARB and Mawaqif facilitate the seamless movement of people and goods. This ideally complements our existing assets in the transport and logistics sector while contributing to the evolution of a smart, safe and sustainable transport network in Abu Dhabi."

ADQ aims to create cluster ecosystems by integrating assets across the value chain. This strategy supports portfolio companies' growth by leveraging their strengths for long-term value creation. Consequently, ADQ contributes significantly to diversifying Abu Dhabi's economy while improving residents' quality of life through reliable delivery of essentials like power, water, transport, food, and healthcare.
