ADNOC L&S Collaborates With REGENT To Trial Electric Seagliders For Offshore Transportation
ADNOC Logistics and Services plc (ADNOC L&S), a leader in global energy maritime logistics, has chosen the electric seaglider from US-based REGENT for a trial. This trial aims to evaluate the craft's potential for transporting personnel to offshore energy sites. The announcement was made during the 'Make it in the Emirates' event in Abu Dhabi.
The Viceroy seaglider, developed by REGENT, merges aircraft speed with boat convenience, offering fast, zero-emission travel. This trial is the initial phase of a possible multi-stage deployment that could see this technology integrated into ADNOC L&S’s offshore logistics operations more extensively.

REGENT plans to manufacture its electric seagliders within the UAE, enhancing local manufacturing capabilities and strengthening the country's industrial base. Additionally, a UAE-based operator will manage the proof-of-concept trial, adding value locally and positioning the UAE as a hub for advanced maritime innovation.
The Viceroy can accommodate up to 12 passengers or 1,600 kilograms of cargo. It can reach speeds of up to 300 kilometers per hour (180 mph) over distances of up to 300 km. Its ability to operate in floating, foiling, and flying modes provides unique versatility and comfort for offshore transport.
Captain Abdulkareem Al Masabi, CEO of ADNOC L&S, stated: "ADNOC L&S is committed to adopting innovative technologies that enhance the safety, sustainability and efficiency of our operations. This proof-of-concept trial with REGENT’s seagliders marks an important milestone in our journey to decarbonise offshore logistics while supporting ‘Make it in the Emirates’ through the development of future-ready maritime capabilities in the UAE."
Compared with helicopters, this craft offers up to 80% lower operational costs. It is equipped with advanced sensors and automated controls for safe and reliable operations. These features make it an attractive option for offshore transport needs.
Aligning with Strategic Objectives
Billy Thalheimer, Co-founder and CEO of REGENT, commented: "REGENT could ask for no better end user for seagliders in the UAE than the largest energy producer in the country and leader in innovation and sustainability. Seagliders will drastically reduce the time, cost, and emissions of offshore energy logistics, and we look forward to working together to set a new standard for the energy industry."
This trial aligns with ADNOC Group’s broader ambition of achieving Net Zero by 2045. It also supports the UAE’s strategic goals of fostering innovation, sustainability, and national industrial growth.
