ADNOC Deploys AIQ’s RoboWell For Advanced Offshore Operations Efficiency

ADNOC has introduced RoboWell, an AI-driven autonomous well-control solution by AIQ, at the offshore NASR field. This marks the first global offshore deployment of RoboWell, showcasing ADNOC's commitment to using advanced technologies for efficient and responsible energy supply.

RoboWell operates wells autonomously using cloud-based AI algorithms that adjust to changing conditions. This technology enhances safety, boosts efficiency, reduces travel needs, and cuts emissions. The deployment is a collaboration with AIQ, an Abu Dhabi-based leader in AI solutions for the energy sector.

ADNOC Adopts AIQ’s RoboWell AI Solution

Abdulmunim Saif Al Kindy, ADNOC Upstream Executive Director, stated: "The offshore deployment of RoboWell at NASR field demonstrates how ADNOC is harnessing the power of AI as we responsibly meet growing global energy demand. ADNOC’s aim is to become the world’s most AI-enabled energy company, integrating AI from the control room to the board room to maximize efficiency and move towards autonomous operations. Through our partnership with AIQ we are leveraging the UAE’s world-leading expertise in energy and AI to help transform the future of energy."

The NASR field, located 130 kilometers northwest of Abu Dhabi, is fully digital and employs various technologies to enhance production while reducing emissions. Initially, RoboWell has been deployed across 10 wells at NASR. Plans are underway to expand this AI solution to over 300 wells in ADNOC's offshore and onshore operations within this year.

Dr. Chris Cooper, CEO of AIQ, commented: "AIQ leverages AI and machine learning solutions that unlock value across the entire value chain of the energy sector. RoboWell has already been proven to deliver up to 30% optimization in gas lift consumption and up to 5% increase in operating efficiency, so the expanded implementation of the solution represents a pivotal step for AIQ and ADNOC. By harnessing this leading-edge technology, we are enabling ADNOC to drive greater value from its resources and further optimize its operations.’’

Development and Future Deployments

RoboWell was developed by AIQ in collaboration with ADNOC’s Thamama Excellence Center. This center uses big data, digitalization, and smart analytics to access hydrocarbon resources more effectively and unlock additional value from existing reservoirs. The initial deployment of RoboWell occurred in 2023 at the onshore NEB field, which is known as ADNOC's first "smart field" due to its use of advanced AI technologies.

This initiative underscores ADNOC's strategic focus on integrating artificial intelligence across its operations to enhance efficiency and move towards autonomous processes. The ongoing partnership with AIQ aims to leverage UAE's expertise in both energy and artificial intelligence sectors.

The deployment of RoboWell represents a significant milestone for both companies as they continue to innovate within the energy sector. By adopting such cutting-edge technologies, ADNOC aims to maintain a secure and reliable supply of energy while meeting global demands responsibly.
