ADNOC Employs AI Technology Neuron 5 For Enhanced Process Optimisation

ADNOC has introduced a cutting-edge artificial intelligence (AI) technology named Neuron 5, aimed at optimising processes. Initially deployed at ADNOC Onshore’s Northeast Bab (NEB) field and ADNOC Gas’s Taweelah gas compression plant, this technology monitors hundreds of equipment pieces autonomously.

The AI-driven solution enhances efficiency by predicting maintenance needs and monitoring equipment performance. It interprets data such as pressure, temperature, and vibration from sensors on critical equipment. This reduces operational downtime and the necessity for manual inspections.

ADNOC's AI Leap in Process Optimisation

Neuron 5's pilot phase demonstrated its potential to reduce unplanned shutdowns by 50 percent. Additionally, it can improve planned maintenance intervals by 20 percent, allowing operators to focus on more productive tasks.

Following its initial success, Neuron 5 will be implemented across all ADNOC facilities. This includes thousands of critical pieces of production equipment like compressors, valves, and generators. The deployment underscores ADNOC's commitment to integrating AI into its operations.

Abdulmunim Saif Al Kindy, ADNOC Upstream Executive Director, stated, "ADNOC is placing AI at the heart of its operations and leveraging industry-leading advanced technologies to help responsibly meet the world’s growing energy demand. The development and deployment of Neuron 5 across our upstream and downstream facilities demonstrate this strategy in action and highlight our continued progress towards our vision to become the world’s most AI-enabled energy company."

Supporting Reliable Gas Supply

At the Taweelah plant, Neuron 5 supports ADNOC Gas's efforts to ensure a reliable gas supply to major industries in Abu Dhabi and the Northern Emirates. This deployment is part of a broader strategy to enhance operational reliability and efficiency.

The innovative technology was developed collaboratively by ADNOC’s Thamama Excellence Centre, AIQ, and AVEVA. This partnership highlights the importance of collaboration in advancing technological solutions within the energy sector.

The deployment of Neuron 5 marks a significant step in ADNOC's journey towards becoming a leader in AI-enabled energy solutions. By leveraging advanced technologies, ADNOC aims to meet global energy demands responsibly while enhancing operational efficiency.
