ADNEC Group Recognised With Year Of Sustainability Seal For Environmental Leadership
ADNEC Group has earned the ‘Plan to Action: Year of Sustainability’s Seal’ for its significant achievements in environmental sustainability. This award, part of a national initiative, recognises UAE organisations that demonstrate measurable and innovative sustainability efforts. The focus this year is on action in areas like green transport and energy conservation, moving from learning to implementation.
ADNEC Centre Abu Dhabi now operates entirely on clean energy through a Clean Energy Trade Agreement with Emirates Water and Electricity Company (EWEC). This agreement ensures power from solar, wind, and nuclear sources, offsetting all electricity-related carbon emissions using International Renewable Energy Certificates (IRECs) accredited by the Abu Dhabi Department of Energy. This makes it the first and largest event venue in the Middle East to achieve such a milestone.

The group has integrated AI-driven HVAC systems at the venue, aiming to cut annual electricity use by 20%, equivalent to about 6 million kilowatt hours. Waste reduction is also a priority, with over half of all waste across ADNEC Group’s operations being recycled. Capital Catering, part of ADNEC Group, processes up to 1,200 kg of food waste daily into compost or dry soil enhancers.
Community involvement is crucial for ADNEC Group's sustainability strategy. Collaborations with Tadweer, Ne’ma, and the UAE Red Crescent help donate unserved food and promote responsible waste management at events. The group also emphasises ethical sourcing and local procurement through its In-Country Value programme (ICV).
A rooftop solar photovoltaic (PV) project at ADNEC Centre Abu Dhabi is set to produce over 8.5 million kilowatt hours of renewable energy in its first year. This system will meet nearly 30% of the venue’s electricity needs while reducing carbon emissions by approximately 6,000 metric tonnes annually.
The recognition aligns with ADNEC Group's broader Net Zero strategy. This includes assessing Scope 1, 2, and 3 emissions and planning for a 25% reduction in carbon footprint per employee by 2030. Such initiatives highlight their commitment to sustainable practices across various sectors.
The award from the Year of Sustainability initiative underscores ADNEC Group's dedication to embedding sustainable actions throughout its operations. By focusing on tangible results in areas like energy efficiency and community engagement, they continue to lead in environmental stewardship within the region.
