ADJD Lab Achieves Global Registration For New Synthetic Cannabinoid Discovery

The Abu Dhabi Judicial Department (ADJD) has made a notable advancement in forensic science. Its chemistry laboratory at the Centre for Forensic and Electronic Sciences has discovered a new narcotic substance, previously unknown globally, and registered it in the international database. This achievement underscores the UAE's leadership in forensic science and its proactive stance in identifying synthetic drugs.

Using cutting-edge laboratory techniques, the chemical lab identified a narcotic from the "synthetic cannabinoid" category, named (ADB-4C-MDMB-BINACA). This substance was officially recorded in the Netherlands' global database under ADJD's name, marking it as the first entity worldwide to document this compound.

Counselor Yousef Saeed Al Abri, Undersecretary of ADJD, highlighted that this discovery builds on previous successes by the chemistry lab. The lab had earlier identified another synthetic cannabis-related narcotic. He praised the team for their readiness, efficiency, and technical skills, which contribute significantly to public safety and scientific advancement.

Al Abri further noted that this discovery aids global efforts to combat drug abuse and improve community safety. He mentioned collaboration with the Forensic Science Research and Education Institute (CFSRE) in the United States. This institute is renowned for its expertise in identifying synthetic drugs. They verified the substance's properties before publishing a scientific paper on it on their official website.

The Undersecretary emphasised that documenting this substance demonstrates the precision of analyses and research quality at ADJD's chemistry lab. It enhances its status as a leading scientific centre regionally and globally in laboratory testing and forensic analysis. The lab not only excels technologically but also plays a crucial role in combating drug issues.

Counsellor Al Abri concluded by affirming that this scientific documentation is evidence of the accuracy of the analyses and the quality of the research work in the chemistry lab, and strengthens its position as a reference scientific centre at the regional and global levels in the field of laboratory testing and forensic analysis, not only in terms of technology but also as an effective contributor to combat drugs.
