Transforming Bahrain: Abu Dhabi Fund For Development Launches AED 23 Billion For 33 Key Initiatives
Since its inception in 1974, the strategic partnership between the Abu Dhabi Fund for Development (ADFD) and the Bahraini government has been a cornerstone for Bahrain's economic enhancement and societal advancement. This collaboration has played a pivotal role in supporting Bahrain's journey towards achieving its Economic Vision 2030, focusing on sustainable development and improving citizens' quality of life.
The cooperation between ADFD and Bahrain has seen the financing of 33 development projects, amounting to AED 23 billion. These projects have spanned multiple sectors, including but not limited to housing, health, transport, and energy. The aim has been to address the kingdom's financial needs effectively while supporting its fiscal balance program for the upcoming years, thus invigorating Bahrain's economy.

Among the significant projects under this partnership is the Salman City Housing Project. With an investment of AED 1.9 billion, this initiative is pivotal in bridging the housing gap by providing 2,400 units equipped with state-of-the-art infrastructure. The first phase, which saw the completion of 1,382 housing units in December, is a testament to the project's commitment to enhancing community stability and satisfaction.
Additionally, the East Sitra Land Reclamation Project, valued at AED 914 million, aims to extend residential areas through land reclamation. This project is set to facilitate the construction of 4,500 housing units, marking a substantial step towards Bahrain's development objectives and expanding housing options for its residents.

The health sector also benefits from this collaboration, as exemplified by the Mohammed Bin Khalifa Specialized Cardiac Center Project, with an investment of AED 937 million. This center significantly boosts the healthcare services available in Bahrain by offering specialized care for heart diseases, thereby reducing the need for patients to seek treatment abroad.
In transportation, the Bahrain International Airport Development Project, with a budget of AED 3.7 billion, aims to bolster Bahrain's status as a crucial air transport hub in the region. The expansion is designed to accommodate up to 14 million passengers annually, fostering the growth of the travel and tourism sector while sustainably enhancing the national economy.
The Sheikh Zayed Road Expansion, with an investment of AED 337 million, targets the alleviation of traffic congestion. By increasing the road capacity to 50,000 vehicles per day, it significantly enhances the efficiency of transport infrastructure and public transportation movement in Bahrain.
Furthermore, the Water Transmission Network Development Project, valued at AED 187 million, aims to improve water infrastructure through the establishment of two storage and pumping stations. This initiative ensures the sustainable management of water resources to meet the increasing demands of residential and industrial zones.
The Northern City Sewage Treatment project, amounting to AED 415 million, focuses on sustainable environmental management. By treating sewage water for agricultural purposes, the project aligns urban development with natural resource protection, emphasizing the partnership's commitment to sustainability.
Mohamed Saif Al Suwaidi, Director General of ADFD, highlighted the enduring relationship between ADFD and the Bahraini government, stating, "The strategic relationship with the government of Bahrain is a unique model of development cooperation that has endured for more than 50 years. This partnership has resulted in significant achievements in many economic sectors, contributing to achieving comprehensive development that benefits Bahraini society."
The partnership not only reflects the strong ties and shared vision between the two nations but also reinforces the importance of Gulf cooperation in achieving sustainable development goals. Through financial and technical support, ADFD has significantly contributed to Bahrain's ability to implement key national projects, thereby creating jobs and improving citizen services.
