ADFD Enhances Global Development Cooperation At Arab-DAC Dialogue
At the recent Arab-DAC Dialogue in Kuwait, the Abu Dhabi Fund for Development (ADFD) played a pivotal role in discussions aimed at enhancing development finance and cooperation. This two-day event focused on addressing the dynamic global challenges through improved financing for sustainable development and fostering stronger partnerships for better outcomes. The dialogue covered key areas such as blended finance programmes, mobilising finance for climate action, and partnerships for youth empowerment in the MENA region.
Mohamed Saif Al Suwaidi, Director-General of the ADFD, engaged in significant discussions with Carsten Staur, Chair of the Development Assistance Committee of the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD-DAC). Their conversations revolved around the strategic approaches of development financing organisations, highlighting the creation of essential infrastructure and mechanisms to attract private sector involvement. Al Suwaidi underscored the critical need for global cooperation to tackle challenges, especially through blended finance mechanisms to fill the financing gap for Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

The dialogue also emphasized the urgent collective action required to combat climate change. This involves identifying key areas within the climate agenda to foster partnerships and mobilise resources effectively. The commitment to addressing climate change was evident in the setting of specific objectives by donors during international conferences to mitigate its impacts.
With significant international events on the horizon, such as the Summit of the Future, COP-29, and FFD-4, the Arab-DAC Dialogue plays a crucial role in aligning priorities and shaping joint political agendas. These discussions are instrumental in establishing actionable follow-up initiatives that will contribute to global processes.
Since its inception in 2009, the Arab-DAC Dialogue has been a foundational event for knowledge exchange and collaboration towards sustainable development. It has significantly contributed to progress in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The ADFD's active participation underscores its commitment to driving positive change and promoting inclusive development across the globe.
