AD Ports Group Highlights Major Sustainability Achievements In 2023 Report

AD Ports Group has unveiled its 2023 Sustainability Report, showcasing notable strides in its decarbonisation efforts. This report underscores the Group's proactive stance on global sustainability challenges. As a publicly listed company on the Abu Dhabi Securities Exchange, AD Ports Group is committed to transparency and stakeholder engagement.

The report highlights the Group's alignment with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the sustainability objectives of Abu Dhabi and the UAE. It details the Group’s journey towards fostering a sustainable future through partnerships and collaborative efforts. The focus is on creating positive environmental, social, and economic impacts.

AD Ports Group's Key Sustainability Progress in 2023

A significant achievement in 2023 was reducing greenhouse gas (GHG) emission intensity by 2%. This reduction brought emissions down to 11.67 kgCO2e per TEU from 11.93 kgCO2e per TEU in 2022. Efficiency improvements in container handling operations and increased use of solar photovoltaic (PV) electricity contributed to this progress.

The Group also reported a 7% decrease in electricity consumption intensity alongside a substantial increase in recycled solid waste by 174%. These gains reflect broader sustainability achievements within the organisation.

AD Ports Group received several awards for its Environmental, Social & Governance (ESG) initiatives from prestigious bodies such as the United Nations and Harvard Business Council. These accolades highlight the Group's commitment to ESG principles.

In addition to these recognitions, AD Ports Group successfully implemented 124 Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives. Employee satisfaction reached an impressive 84%, with training hours increasing by 57% and female employee numbers rising by 42%.

Solar Energy Integration

The integration of solar PV capacity into operations resulted in a reduction of 5,000 tonnes of CO2 equivalent emissions using clean energy. Future solar PV projects are planned at Khalifa Port, Zayed Port, and other locations managed under concession agreements.

Khalifa Port in Abu Dhabi was recognised as the third-most efficient container port globally by the Container Port Performance Index (CPPI), published by the World Bank and S&P Global Market Intelligence in 2023.
