Abu Dhabi Hosts Record-Breaking World Professional Jiu-Jitsu Championship With Over 9,000 Athletes

The Abu Dhabi World Professional Jiu-Jitsu Championship, under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, will occur from November 6 to 16 at Mubadala Arena in Zayed Sports City. This year, over 9,000 athletes from 137 countries are expected, marking it as the largest edition ever and setting a new standard in jiu-jitsu.

During a press conference at The Ritz-Carlton Abu Dhabi, key figures revealed details about this year's championship. Attendees included Saud Abdulaziz Al Hosani from the Department of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi, Aref Hamad Al Awani of the Abu Dhabi Sports Council, and other notable officials. Their presence underscored the event's significance.

Record Participation at Abu Dhabi Jiu-Jitsu Championship

The championship provides athletes with a global stage to showcase their skills and gain experience. It also promotes cultural exchange by bringing together diverse participants who share common values. Competitors can earn points towards the prestigious Abu Dhabi World Jiu-Jitsu Awards, enhancing the event's competitive spirit.

Abdulmunem Alsayed Mohamed Alhashmi, Chairman of the UAE Jiu-Jitsu Federation, expressed gratitude for the UAE’s leadership. He highlighted their support for sports and athletes globally. "We are delighted to welcome all guests, athletes, and fans," he stated. "This championship unites the world’s best talent to showcase their skills and elevate their global rankings."

Alhashmi also acknowledged the crucial role of partners and sponsors in achieving global leadership in jiu-jitsu. He said, "Their support has been vital in helping us achieve this level of global leadership in Jiu-Jitsu." The event aims to inspire new generations to pursue excellence and embrace core values.

Aref Hamad Al Awani emphasised how the championship reinforces Abu Dhabi’s status in global sports. "We commend the UAE Jiu-Jitsu Federation’s dedication," he noted. The event showcases young athletes' skills alongside international competitors, solidifying Abu Dhabi's reputation for hosting world-class events.

Yaqoub Saeed Al Saadi highlighted the tournament's growth since 2009. "This tournament represents the rise and expansion of jiu-jitsu," he said. Saud Abdulaziz Al Hosani remarked on jiu-jitsu's flourishing status since the championship's inception. "Thanks to the UAE Jiu-Jitsu Federation’s efforts," he stated, "Abu Dhabi has become a global sports hub." The city looks forward to welcoming athletes and fans from 137 countries.

Futoon Al Mazrouei expressed pride in supporting the championship. "This event has contributed to positioning the UAE as a prime sports destination," she said. This year's championship will feature an extended schedule with additional mats and increased capacity for more athletes across various categories. It begins on November 6 with an opening ceremony and concludes on November 16 with the Abu Dhabi World Jiu-Jitsu Awards honoring standout athletes.
