Al-Ajizi highlighted that the Arab vision for a digital economy, endorsed at the 2022 Algiers Summit, is crucial for creating integrated digital economies in the region.

Workshop on Sustainable Investment in Abu Dhabi

The workshop spanned two days and included several important sessions. The first session concentrated on digital investment within the Arab region. Discussions covered government-led digital transformation initiatives, strategic infrastructure investments, global trends in digital transformation, and its significance in achieving sustainable development goals.

The second session explored ways to support private investment and foster foreign partnerships in digital projects. This session aimed to identify opportunities that could enhance collaboration between different sectors to drive growth in digital initiatives across the region.

Coinciding with the workshop was the 16th meeting of the Arab Committee for Sustainable Development. Held both physically and via video conference on Tuesday, this meeting was chaired by the UAE as part of its presidency of the Economic and Social Council for this session. Representatives from fourteen Arab countries concerned with sustainable development participated.

The committee's agenda comprised 14 key topics focusing on vital issues such as eradicating hunger in the Arab region, establishing an Arab Digital Platform for Sustainable Development, promoting sustainable financing, and realising Arab Vision 2045. These discussions aimed to address pressing challenges while fostering regional cooperation.

Keynote Speeches

Dr. Abdullah Al Darmaki, Deputy Secretary-General of the Arab Federation for Digital Economy, delivered a keynote speech during the opening session. He stated that "sustainable investment in digital transformation in the Arab region comes at a time when digital transformation has become an indispensable necessity to achieve comprehensive and sustainable development." His remarks underscored the critical role of digital advancements in driving economic progress.

During another segment of the meeting, Dr. Ayman Mokhtar Ghoneim presented insights into the Arab Food Market Initiative. This initiative aims to form a broad alliance among government bodies, public and private sectors, and technology firms to establish a virtual market. Such collaborations are expected to enhance food security through innovative solutions.

The workshop also featured participation from specialised Arab organisations and representatives from international bodies like ESCWA, UNESCO, and others concerned with sustainability. These entities contributed their expertise to enrich discussions around sustainable development strategies tailored for regional needs.

This collaborative effort reflects a shared commitment among participating nations to leverage digital technologies for sustainable growth. By aligning efforts towards common goals such as reducing hunger or improving financial sustainability frameworks within their regions' contexts—these initiatives hold promise for future advancements across various sectors.
