Abu Dhabi Water & Power Week Set To Launch In May 2026 To Enhance Water Security And Innovation

Under the guidance of H.H. Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Abu Dhabi is set to host the inaugural Abu Dhabi Water & Power Week. Organised by the Department of Energy (DoE), this event will take place from 19-22 May 2026 at the ADNEC Centre. The initiative aims to position Abu Dhabi as a global leader in water and power innovation, enhancing security and sustainable networks.

The event seeks to unify public and private sector efforts, fostering collaboration and partnerships. It aims to attract experts and decision-makers to explore future trends in these critical sectors, aligning with the UAE's 2050 strategies for water and energy. By focusing on grid stability, inclusive growth, and technological advancement, it supports strategic investments and policies.

Launch of Abu Dhabi Water & Power Week in 2026

Dr. Abdulla Humaid Al Jarwan, Chairman of DoE, stated that the event is guided by directives from His Highness Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan. He emphasised that the week showcases Abu Dhabi’s leadership in innovation and collaboration, contributing to frameworks needed for resource security and investment acceleration. "Guided by the directives of His Highness Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the DoE, in collaboration with strategic partners, is convening Abu Dhabi Water & Power Week to foster an environment where the broader water and energy ecosystem can advance its journey toward a sustainable and resilient future," he said.

The programme will feature high-level sessions across five forums. These include the World Utilities Congress focused on power systems and water security; a DoE-led summit advancing regulations; a fintech summit connecting investors with opportunities; an AI summit showcasing tech advancements; and a water innovation summit hosted by The Mohamed bin Zayed Water Initiative.

The platform will reinforce Abu Dhabi as a hub for energy-water-technology innovation through strategic partnerships with institutions like The Mohamed bin Zayed Water Initiative, ADQ, and TAQA. As part of this week, The Mohamed bin Zayed Water Initiative will host its first summit focused on water innovation. This platform will gather global leaders to explore next-gen technologies addressing water scarcity.

With a focus on technology, financing, investment, and stakeholder collaboration, the summit empowers youth voices tackling water scarcity issues. It highlights UAE's role in fostering international cooperation for coordinated action against water scarcity challenges.

Addressing Future Challenges

Global demand for power is expected to double while water demand may rise by 40% by 2050 due to population growth and urbanisation. The interconnected themes of Abu Dhabi Water & Power Week reflect this convergence of energy, water, and technology. Discussions will cover resilient power systems, secure networks, digital transformation, and strategic investment.

This initiative aligns with local projects supporting UAE Energy Strategy 2050 goals. It helps future-proof both sectors within UAE's national framework for energy and water security beyond 2050.

Through discussions between governments and regulators during Abu Dhabi Water & Power Week leading up to December’s United Nations Water Conference co-hosted by UAE-Senegal in Abu Dhabi—foundations are laid for progress on securing resources globally.
