2,400 Abu Dhabi Students Gear Up For ADEK's AI Summer Programs
Abu Dhabi Department of Education and Knowledge (ADEK) is collaborating with 42 Abu Dhabi and Mohamed bin Zayed University of Artificial Intelligence (MBZUAI) to organise AI Summer Programs for students. These initiatives aim to inspire the next generation to lead in reshaping industries through transformative AI technologies.
With ADEK's strategic focus on innovation, the three distinct AI Summer Programs are designed for 2,400 students in grades 9 to 12 from various schools. The programs provide a comprehensive understanding of next-generation AI, covering fundamentals, real-life applications, ethics, new concept development, and career exploration.

In partnership with 42 Abu Dhabi, these bootcamps offer hands-on AI learning experiences for students in grades 9-12. The aim is to enhance problem-solving skills and acquire future-ready capabilities. Students collaborate with peers to develop innovative solutions during these sessions.
The bootcamps are available in two formats over four consecutive weeks to cater to different learning preferences. A full-day bootcamp held in six schools across Abu Dhabi, Al Ain, and Al Dhafra provides an intensive experience focusing on Generative AI and Prompt Engineering. This includes advanced techniques like fine-tuning language models with specific prompts to optimise output quality.
An alternative format is a two-hour session held in collaboration with Majalis Abu Dhabi at the Citizens and Community Affairs Office of the Presidential Court. These sessions take place in 28 locations across Abu Dhabi, Al Ain, and Al Dhafra. They offer a tailored learning opportunity for Emirati students by building knowledge through conversations that emphasise AI fundamentals and real-life applications.
A unique five-day summer program is organised in collaboration with MBZUAI, targeting grade 11 students. This program provides insights into various AI uses including film production, generative AI (GenAI), responsible AI, and sustainability research projects. Workshops are led by MBZUAI’s esteemed faculty, alumni, students, and staff.
ADEK also collaborates with MBZUAI to prepare four Emirati students for the first edition of the International Olympiad in Artificial Intelligence (IOAI). This prestigious competition is designed for high school students passionate about artificial intelligence. The mission of IOAI is to inspire young minds to explore the limitless possibilities of AI.
To support this initiative, two MBZUAI students are assigned as mentors to guide the team. They ensure that the participants are ready for IOAI, which takes place from 9-15 August in Bulgaria.
Mubarak Hamad Al Mheiri, ADEK Undersecretary, stated: "We are committed to preparing a generation ready for the evolving AI landscape. The AI Summer Programs will empower young minds to drive meaningful global change. By partnering with world-leading institutions like 42 Abu Dhabi and MBZUAI, we ensure Abu Dhabi's youth receive best-in-class AI training."
