Abu Dhabi's Petroleum Products Trading Committee Discusses Regulations And Safety In Third 2024 Meeting
The Petroleum Products Trading Committee of Abu Dhabi convened its third meeting of 2024, led by Dr. Saif Saeed Al Qubaisi, Acting Director-General of Regulatory Affairs at the Department of Energy and Chairman of the Committee. Representatives from various government entities in the Emirate attended the session.
At the start, the Abu Dhabi Civil Defence Authority presented challenges and risks related to unlicensed petroleum product trading. ADNOC Distribution followed with updates on grey market developments. Additionally, the Emergencies, Crisis and Disasters Management Centre - Abu Dhabi (ADCMC) outlined key roles in handling petroleum product incidents.

The committee reviewed outcomes from a recent petroleum products emergency drill conducted by ADCMC. Updates from the committee's working groups were also discussed during this session.
The meeting highlighted a summer awareness campaign for liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) systems launched by the Abu Dhabi Department of Energy. This campaign aims to raise awareness about safety standards and best practices through field visits during the summer months.
Bader Saeed Al Lamki, CEO of ADNOC Distribution, stressed the committee's role in ensuring a safe, reliable, and sustainable energy sector. He emphasised adopting a customer-friendly approach aligned with global best practices.
Committee's Responsibilities
The Petroleum Products Trading Committee comprises 19 entities in Abu Dhabi. According to Federal Law No. (14) of 2017, its main duties include reviewing trading permit applications referred by the Department of Energy. The committee ensures these applications meet approved conditions before making recommendations to the Department.
Additionally, it verifies that approved security, safety, and environmental requirements are met in transportation, manufacturing, storage, and facilities involved in trading activities. The committee also recommends which petroleum products can be traded in Abu Dhabi and advises on adding or suspending trading activities based on the Emirate's needs.
The meeting concluded with discussions on enhancing safety measures and regulatory compliance within the petroleum products sector in Abu Dhabi.
