Abu Dhabi Judicial Department Highlights Rehabilitation Initiatives On World Inmate Day 2025
The Abu Dhabi Judicial Department (ADJD) recently hosted an event to mark World Inmate Day. This initiative aligns with their dedication to restorative justice and highlights efforts for inmate rehabilitation and societal reintegration. The gathering included strategic partners and entities that support these rehabilitation programs, showcasing a collaborative approach to fostering positive change.
Counselor Yousef Saeed Al Abri, Undersecretary of the ADJD, stated that celebrating World Inmate Day underscores the department's commitment to His Highness Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan's vision. This vision aims to transform correctional facilities into platforms for personal growth and development.

During the event, several initiatives launched since 2025 were presented. These include partnerships with the Authority of Social Contributions – Ma’an and Hayat Post-Care Association. Notable projects are the Digital Creative Studio for advanced graphic design training and a Fine Arts Centre supporting programming courses.
The ADJD has implemented comprehensive rehabilitation programs addressing psychological, social, and vocational needs. These programs contribute to character building, enabling inmates to pursue positive paths post-sentence. The focus is on holistic development to facilitate successful reintegration into society.
Rehabilitation efforts also encompass educational initiatives such as Quran memorization programs benefiting over 500 inmates. Additionally, the "Travel Bag" project provides essential supplies for inmates starting new lives after release. These initiatives aim to equip inmates with skills and resources for a fresh start.
The "Faraj Fund" contributed AED 1.2 million in financial aid during the first half of the year. This assistance helped secure the release of financially distressed inmates. Furthermore, Higher Colleges of Technology provided job-market training for 70 inmates, enhancing their employability prospects.
Cultural and Religious Activities
Prior to the main celebration, internal activities took place at Al Wathba and Al Ain correctional centres. These included artistic performances, cultural competitions, and recognition of graduates from job readiness programs. Such activities highlight creative contributions from inmates and their positive transformation through rehabilitation efforts.
The General Authority for Islamic Affairs, Endowments, and Zakat organised religious lectures and Quran competitions for over 600 inmates. These activities aim to nurture spiritual growth alongside other rehabilitation efforts within correctional facilities.

At the event's conclusion, several partners supporting rehabilitation projects were honoured by the Judicial Department.
