Abu Dhabi Investment Office Collaborates With Wusoom To Develop Protein Fermentation Initiatives

The Abu Dhabi Investment Office (ADIO) and Wusoom Holding have entered into a Memorandum of Understanding to develop protein fermentation projects in Abu Dhabi. This collaboration aims to diversify the emirate’s economy and enhance global food security using sustainable technology. The initiative was announced during Global Food Week 2025, focusing on establishing industrial-scale protein fermentation capabilities for novel foods and alternative proteins.

Abu Dhabi plans to utilise advanced biotechnology and fermentation science to produce high-quality protein products. This approach addresses the increasing global demand for sustainable food solutions. The partnership is a key component of Abu Dhabi's AgriFood Growth and Water Abundance (AGWA) cluster, which seeks to position the Emirate as a leader in food and water innovation.

Abu Dhabi Partners with Wusoom on Protein Projects

AGWA aims to significantly boost Abu Dhabi's economy by contributing AED 90 billion in GDP, creating over 60,000 jobs, and attracting AED 128 billion in investments by 2045. This initiative will also explore commercial partnerships for product distribution across the UAE’s Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreements (CEPA) network, China, GCC countries, Africa, and Europe.

Wusoom Holding's portfolio will introduce innovative companies and strategic partners to Abu Dhabi's growth ecosystem. This will foster networking effects and enable additional high-value investments in the emirate. The collaboration is expected to bring substantial direct benefits through foreign direct investment inflows and high-quality job creation in research, production, and development sectors.

The partnership between ADIO and Wusoom Holding will enhance GDP contribution through advanced manufacturing sectors. It positions Abu Dhabi as a regional hub for alternative protein production. By leveraging Wusoom’s network, Abu Dhabi aims to attract more strategic partners and innovative companies to its ecosystem.

This collaboration is set to create significant economic opportunities for Abu Dhabi. It will not only diversify the economy but also strengthen its position as a leader in sustainable food technology. The focus on alternative proteins aligns with global trends towards more sustainable food production methods.

The agreement between ADIO and Wusoom Holding marks an important step towards achieving these goals. By investing in protein fermentation projects, Abu Dhabi is poised to become a key player in the global market for sustainable food solutions.
