Abu Dhabi International Tennis Complex: A Premier Venue For Global Sporting Events

The Abu Dhabi International Tennis Complex at Zayed Sports City is a key venue that has played an important role in promoting tennis in the UAE. By attracting top international players, it has helped establish Abu Dhabi as a global sports hub with facilities capable of hosting major events throughout the year.

Since its opening in 2004, the complex has been home to nine outdoor tennis courts. The main stadium seats 5,000 spectators, and there are two additional courts with 500 seats each. It also includes three 3x3 basketball courts, three padel courts, and a 600 square meter event space.

The complex has hosted numerous prestigious events since its first tournament in 2006. The Mubadala World Tennis Championship is one such event that draws the world's top ten players. In February, it will host the third edition of the Mubadala Abu Dhabi Open, a WTA 500 event.

Suhail Al Arifi, Executive Director of the Sports Development Sector at the Abu Dhabi Sports Council, highlighted the complex's significance. "The International Tennis Complex is a unique landmark within Zayed Sports City and a cornerstone of Abu Dhabi's efforts to host major international sporting events," he stated.

The presence of various subsidiary courts alongside the main stadium provides ample opportunities for tennis players to practice or train regularly. This makes it a distinctive sporting icon. Additionally, basketball and padel courts enhance its capacity to host diverse tournaments.

Over the years, renowned tennis players like Maria Sharapova, Rafael Nadal, Novak Djokovic, Ons Jabeur, and Carlos Alcaraz have graced this venue. These appearances have further elevated its status as a premier destination for tennis enthusiasts.

Expanding Beyond Tennis

Besides tennis tournaments, the complex has hosted other significant events such as the Special Olympics World Games and FIBA 3x3 World Tour. It has even been a venue for WWE wrestling matches, showcasing its versatility in accommodating various sports and entertainment activities.

The facility's ability to host such diverse events underscores its importance in Abu Dhabi's sporting landscape. Its infrastructure supports not only tennis but also other sports and entertainment activities year-round.
