Abu Dhabi International Shotgun Championship Commences With Over 300 Shooters In Al Ain

The Abu Dhabi International Shotgun Championship, under the patronage of H.H. Sheikh Hazza bin Zayed Al Nahyan, commenced today at the Al Ain Equestrian and Shooting Club. This event will continue until 4th December. Organised by the Weapons and Dangerous Materials Office in collaboration with the UAE Shooting Federation and FITASC, it features over 300 shooters from 30 countries, including 40 from the UAE.

The championship boasts a prize fund exceeding $400,000 (over AED1.5 million). A special competition, the Abu Dhabi Silver Award, is part of the closing programme, offering prizes worth more than AED100,000. The opening day showcased intense competition across six categories: Juniors, Women, Masters, Open, Seniors, and Veterans.

Abu Dhabi Shotgun Championship Begins in Al Ain

Mohammed Suhail Al Neyadi, Director-General of the Weapons and Dangerous Materials Office and Chairman of the Higher Organising Committee, highlighted that this championship is a first in the region and among the world's most prestigious shotgun events. He noted that it began smoothly and on schedule. "We began with three rounds for each shooter, totalling 75 targets," he said.

Al Neyadi further explained that competitions are held across eight ranges built to international standards. These facilities ensure fairness and safety while meeting global championship requirements. He added that participants will face another 75 targets on the second day and 50 on the third day.

Al Neyadi observed significant enthusiasm from both shooters and judges from the start. He remarked on the strong level of competition witnessed early on. "We wish all participants the best of luck in the remaining days," he stated.

The participation of over 40 UAE shooters highlights the sport's growing popularity in the country. Al Neyadi mentioned that this provides Emirati competitors with valuable experience alongside international shooters and world champions.

Looking Ahead

The championship is progressing as planned with positive feedback from participants and strong technical levels observed. Al Neyadi expressed optimism for a successful conclusion with final results soon to be announced.

He also disclosed plans for future championships: "We envision hosting further competitions, including a shotgun championship next January in Al Ain dedicated to trap and skeet events." This upcoming event is expected to draw a global audience and significant participation.
