Abu Dhabi Indoor Air Quality Observatory HawAQM Enables Real-Time Health Monitoring Across Buildings

The Abu Dhabi Public Health Centre has introduced the Indoor Air Quality Observatory HawAQM to strengthen monitoring of indoor pollutants across the emirate. The system focuses on protecting residents’ health by tracking conditions in enclosed spaces and supplying reliable data to guide timely interventions.

HawAQM operates as a core project under the Abu Dhabi Public Health Centre Strategy, integrating indoor air surveillance into broader public health planning. The observatory supports Abu Dhabi’s goals for sustainable development and improved quality of life through scientific monitoring and evidence-based decision-making.

Abu Dhabi HawAQM Monitors Indoor Air Quality

The observatory uses advanced scientific tools and high-precision sensors that provide continuous, real-time readings. These devices are installed in selected buildings across Abu Dhabi. Locations include schools, homes and other indoor facilities, where key pollutants are measured to assess risks and identify trends in indoor air quality.

Data from HawAQM’s monitoring units is transmitted instantly to a dedicated HawAQM dashboard. The dashboard presents detailed analytics and visualisations that help experts interpret conditions quickly. This allows specialists and decision-makers to move from observation to rapid corrective actions, improving ventilation, filtration or other controls where needed.

The system is designed to raise awareness about indoor air quality and tighten oversight across public and private buildings. By tracking contaminants around the clock, HawAQM gives authorities and partners a clearer view of exposure patterns. This strengthens Abu Dhabi’s ongoing programmes to create healthier indoor environments for residents and visitors.

Dr. Rashid Al Suwaidi, Director General of the ADPHC, said, "Abu Dhabi continues its pioneering efforts to protect community health and improve quality of life. The Indoor Air Quality Observatory – HawAQM is a strategic tool that strengthens the emirate’s capabilities in smart monitoring of health risks, safeguarding public health, and supporting future planning based on accurate, data-driven insights."

Dr. Rashid Al Suwaidi added, "Our commitment to innovation and the adoption of cutting-edge technologies reflects our dedication to creating healthy and safe indoor environments for current and future generations – contributing to improved public health and the achievement of sustainable development."

Through HawAQM, the Abu Dhabi Public Health Centre links modern monitoring technology with long-term public health planning. The observatory’s real-time insights, broad coverage and analytical tools support practical steps that can reduce exposure to indoor pollutants and maintain safer, healthier buildings throughout the emirate.
