Abu Dhabi Hosts 20th Session Of Arab Information Ministers Council To Enhance Media Cooperation

Abu Dhabi recently hosted the 20th session of the Executive Office of the Arab Information Ministers Council. The meeting aimed to boost cooperation in tackling current media industry challenges. Key attendees included Abdulla bin Mohammed bin Butti Al Hamed, Chairman of the National Media Office and UAE Media Council, and Salman Al-Dosari, Saudi Minister of Media and Chairman of the Executive Office, alongside other Arab media ministers.

Al Hamed conveyed greetings from President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, expressing hopes for a fruitful meeting. He emphasised the importance of Arab media collaboration to address political, economic, and security issues in the region. The focus was on creating a media narrative that accurately portrays Arab identity, promotes tolerance, and highlights regional achievements.

Al Hamed stressed the need for an Arab media grounded in knowledge and innovation that respects diversity while addressing challenges. He highlighted the importance of investing in professional media content to enhance Arab media's global presence amid rapid changes in the global media sector. The strategic role of modern technologies, especially artificial intelligence (AI), was also underscored as crucial for shaping Arab media's future.

He noted that today's media extends beyond news dissemination, serving as a tool for sustainable development. The Arab Media Map for Sustainable Development 2030 was cited as a key framework showcasing Arab nations' commitment to developmental issues. Al Hamed affirmed the UAE's dedication to supporting joint Arab media efforts and strengthening integration among Arab countries to benefit their people.

Ambassador Ahmed Rashid Khattabi, Assistant Secretary-General and Supervisor of the Media and Communication Sector at the Arab League, emphasised the necessity for Arab media to adapt to rapid technological advancements. He mentioned that discussions centred on modernising the Arab media charter, addressing environmental and technological challenges, and forming strategic partnerships with global digital platforms.

The Permanent Committee for Arab Media reviewed updates on various initiatives such as the Arab Media Action Plan abroad and the role of electronic media in combating terrorism. Efforts were also made to advance negotiations with international media companies and promote environmental media literacy.

Enhancing Professional Excellence

The meeting examined steps to improve professional excellence among Arab media professionals by developing their skills. This included advancing measures related to the Arab Media Map for Sustainable Development 2030. Al Hamed concluded by reiterating that Arab media carries a noble mission beyond words and images. It plays a vital role in building a future rooted in tolerance, coexistence, and hope.

He called for unified efforts to achieve sustainable Arab media reflecting regional aspirations while serving its people effectively. The discussions underscored ongoing efforts towards enhancing professional excellence within the industry.
