3rd Bike Abu Dhabi Gran Fondo To Highlight Cycling's Role In Health And Community
Abu Dhabi Sports Council has announced the third Bike Abu Dhabi Gran Fondo will take place on 16 November 2024. The cycling race covers a 150 km route, starting in Abu Dhabi and finishing in Al Ain. The total prize pool for this edition is AED 2 million, making it a significant sports event in the UAE.
The race underscores the importance of cycling for public health, attracting hundreds of enthusiasts. Aref Hamad Al Awani, General Secretary of the Abu Dhabi Sports Council, stated: "The third edition of the Bike Abu Dhabi Gran Fondo provides a distinguished experience for cycling fans, as it brings together both amateur and professional cyclists on a long track that passes through different areas in Abu Dhabi."

Al Awani highlighted that since its inception in 2022, the event has seen substantial community involvement from diverse cyclists. In 2023, the number of participants reached 1,200, representing 75 nationalities residing within and outside the UAE. He added: "The Bike Abu Dhabi Gran Fondo is not only a race but rather a celebration of cycling and the unity of society, and its ultimate goal is to encourage maintaining physical fitness, following a healthy lifestyle, and improving the quality of life of society."
The International Cycling Union recognised Abu Dhabi as a "Bike City" in November 2021. This designation acknowledges Abu Dhabi's commitment to promoting cycling as a healthy daily activity, sustainable transportation method, and competitive sport for all levels. The initiative aims to unify efforts to achieve long-term goals in consolidating Abu Dhabi's global position in cycling.
