Strategic Alliance Formed To Propel EVTOL Development In Abu Dhabi

The Abu Dhabi Investment Office (ADIO) has teamed up with the Multi Level Group (MLG), a leading fintech entity in the MENA region, to foster the development of electric Vertical Take-Off and Landing (eVTOL) vehicles in the UAE and beyond. This collaboration was announced during the DRIFTx event in Abu Dhabi, a new global forum dedicated to discussing future mobility innovations. A significant trilateral agreement was signed with EHang, a pioneer in urban air mobility (UAM) technology, marking a pivotal step towards establishing Abu Dhabi as a central hub for eVTOL and unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) advancements.

EHang plans to establish its regional headquarters in Abu Dhabi, aiming to enhance business activities across various domains including manufacturing, flight operations, research and development, training, and Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul (MRO) facilities. ADIO is set to provide EHang with extensive support, facilitating data sharing, business establishment guidance, and connections within the Abu Dhabi ecosystem and international trade opportunities.

Abu Dhabi's Leap in eVTOL Innovation

Badr Al Olama, Director-General of ADIO, highlighted the importance of this partnership in accelerating the adoption of smart and autonomous vehicles across different modes of transportation. He emphasized Abu Dhabi's commitment to advancing the future of mobility on a global scale through collaborations with industry leaders like MLG and EHang.

EHang's achievements in the UAM sector are noteworthy, with its EH216-S model being the first pilotless eVTOL aircraft to receive type certification, production certification, and standard airworthiness certificate from the Civil Aviation Administration of China. This underscores EHang's leading position in the UAM technology platform sector.

Abdul Jabbar Al Sayegh, Chairman of MLG, expressed his enthusiasm for the partnership's potential to revolutionize transportation methods for people and goods. He stressed the collaboration's role in positioning Abu Dhabi as a key player in the advancement of eVTOLs and UAVs.

Huazhi Hu, Founder, CEO, and Chairman of EHang, praised Abu Dhabi for its innovative technologies and supportive ecosystem for UAM solutions. He expressed excitement about partnering with MLG and ADIO to expand EHang's presence in the MENA region and contribute to Abu Dhabi's leadership in the UAM sector.

The partnership is further supported by SAVI (Smart Autonomous Vehicle Initiative), which aims to innovate and commercialize smart and autonomous vehicle technologies in the UAE. Located in Masdar City, SAVI will feature state-of-the-art facilities including R&D labs and large-scale workshops connected through Abu Dhabi’s global logistics network.

ADIO and SAVI's support extends to DRIFTx, an international platform showcasing advanced urban mobility applications across air, land, and sea. Scheduled for 25-26 April 2024 at Yas Marina Circuit, this event promises engaging discussions and displays of flying taxis, driverless cars, and autonomous boats.

This partnership between ADIO, MLG, and EHang represents a significant leap forward in realizing Abu Dhabi’s vision for becoming a global leader in urban air mobility. It not only highlights the region's commitment to innovative transportation solutions but also sets a benchmark for future developments in smart mobility technologies.
