Abu Dhabi Department Of Energy Introduces First Vertical LPG Tank System For Enhanced Food Safety
The Abu Dhabi Department of Energy (DoE) has introduced a vertical Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) tank system for food businesses in the emirate. This system offers a safer and more efficient alternative to traditional LPG cylinders. It includes a vertical tank with a capacity of up to 125 gallons, featuring an explosion-proof vaporiser, and is refilled on-site by licensed operators, eliminating the need for gas cylinder storage or handling.
Dr Saif Saeed Al Qubaisi, Acting Director General for Regulatory Affairs at DoE, stated that this initiative demonstrates the department’s dedication to safeguarding individuals and communities by ensuring a secure operational environment for food establishments. He emphasised the importance of gas as a crucial energy source for the sector.

This innovative approach significantly reduces leak risks and incidents, simplifies operations, and represents a major regulatory step towards improving safety standards in the food industry. The DoE issued Technical Bulletin No (1/2025), detailing technical requirements, safety standards, and regulatory conditions for installing these tanks according to NFPA standards and the UAE Fire and Life Safety Code.
Engineer Ahmed Al Sheebani, Executive Director of the Petroleum Products Regulatory Affairs Sector at DoE, mentioned that the project aims to create a safer and more sustainable system. This enables food establishments to operate confidently and reliably while serving customers according to international best practices. He also highlighted the department’s collaboration with licensed private sector operators for system approval and implementation following the highest standards.
The DoE urged all food establishments, especially those without access to underground gas networks or centralised LPG systems, to adopt this modern solution. This ensures compliance with current and future regulatory requirements. By implementing this integrated system, businesses can enhance their operational efficiency while adhering to safety regulations.
This new LPG tank system marks a significant advancement in ensuring safety within Abu Dhabi's food sector. The initiative reflects a commitment to providing secure energy solutions that align with international standards while supporting local businesses in maintaining safe operations.
