Abu Dhabi Department Of Energy Partners With Space42 To Enhance Geospatial And AI Solutions For Sustainability

The Abu Dhabi Department of Energy (DoE) and Space42, a UAE-based AI-powered SpaceTech firm, have entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). This agreement aims to foster collaboration on geospatial and artificial intelligence (AI) solutions to enhance sustainable energy and water management in the Emirate. The signing was overseen by Dr. Abdulla Humaid Al Jarwan, Chairman of the DoE.

Eng. Shaima Abdulla Al Mulla, Executive Director at the DoE, and Hasan Al Hosani, CEO of Smart Solutions at Space42, signed the MoU. This partnership sets a framework for cooperation between the two entities to explore and implement advanced geospatial and AI-driven technologies. The goal is to improve Abu Dhabi’s energy and water infrastructure resilience and operational efficiency while supporting environmental sustainability.

Abu Dhabi and Space42 Collaborate on AI Solutions

Space42 will provide satellite imagery as managed services under this agreement. They will deliver high-resolution optical, radar (SAR), and thermal data to enhance infrastructure monitoring and planning. Additionally, they will offer geospatial AI solutions that enable predictive analysis and data-driven decision-making across various sectors.

The collaboration also includes integrated monitoring systems for electricity, water, district cooling, and associated infrastructure using advanced satellite-based insights. AI-driven simulations for rainwater catchment and flood resilience are part of the plan. Furthermore, IoT and AI will process real-time data from DoE’s remote sites to optimise resource management.

These initiatives aim to improve accurate water management by providing timely insights into soil moisture levels across Abu Dhabi. This supports informed decision-making and resource optimisation. The two parties will explore potential joint initiatives, pilot projects, and studies to advance sustainable energy and water management in the emirate further.

The agreement promotes innovation in using digital, smart, and native AI technologies for infrastructure monitoring and resource management. "This partnership with Space42 reflects our ongoing commitment to harnessing advanced technologies that strengthen Abu Dhabi’s sustainable development agenda," said Al Mulla.

Commitment to Sustainable Development

Al Hosani stated: "Collaboration with the Department of Energy unlocks the potential of space-based data and AI capabilities to advance our commitment to smarter, more sustainable urban systems." He emphasised that this MoU marks a milestone in leveraging insights from space to enhance situational awareness across Abu Dhabi’s energy ecosystem.

This partnership aims to support resilience within the Emirate by improving operational efficiency through innovative solutions. By integrating AI, satellite imagery, and geospatial data, both parties are developing smart solutions for better resource management while enhancing energy efficiency.
