Abu Dhabi Customs And Japan Customs Explore Trade Facilitation For Economic Growth

Rashed Lahej Al Mansoori, Director-General of Abu Dhabi Customs, recently met with Yojiro Uchino, Deputy Director General of Japan's Customs and Tariff Bureau. Their discussions focused on enhancing bilateral cooperation, exploring new opportunities, and sharing expertise in customs operations. They emphasised the role of digital technologies and smart solutions in facilitating trade and supporting future economic growth.

Uchino warmly welcomed the Abu Dhabi delegation, reaffirming Japan Customs' commitment to strengthening bilateral customs cooperation. He highlighted the importance of openness and forward-thinking strategies. Uchino also praised Abu Dhabi Customs for its digital innovations, noting that these efforts will enhance the partnership as they prepare to sign the Mutual Customs Assistance Agreement between Japan and the UAE.

The anticipated agreement aims to create a robust legal framework for information sharing. This collaboration is expected to deepen ties between both nations, fostering a more integrated approach to customs operations. The focus on emerging technologies like artificial intelligence is seen as pivotal in transforming future customs processes.

Al Mansoori expressed gratitude for Japan Customs' hospitality and underscored the strong relationship between Abu Dhabi, the UAE, and Japan. He described Japan as a key strategic partner. Al Mansoori highlighted Abu Dhabi Customs' dedication to digital transformation through initiatives like the TradeChain blockchain platform and AI-driven Integrated Risk Management System.

The proposed Trusted Digital Trade Corridor pilot project was also mentioned as part of their innovative approach. Al Mansoori viewed this visit as a significant step in advancing their partnership, particularly in smart trade facilitation and border security. The development of advanced customs systems is crucial for addressing future challenges effectively.

Participation in Key Events

The Abu Dhabi delegation participated in several important events during their visit to Japan. These included Expo 2025 Osaka, SusHi Tech Tokyo, the 11th Abu Dhabi–Japan Economic Council, the Abu Dhabi Investment Forum, and the Abu Dhabi–Tokyo Business Forum.
