Abu Dhabi Art 2024 Set For November 20 To 24 Featuring Mohammed Kazem
The 16th edition of Abu Dhabi Art is scheduled from 20th to 24th November at Manarat Al Saadiyat. This event is held under the patronage of H.H. Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Chairman of the Abu Dhabi Executive Council. Organised by the Department of Culture and Tourism - Abu Dhabi (DCT Abu Dhabi), it highlights Emirati artist Mohammed Kazem as this year’s Visual Campaign Artist.
Abu Dhabi Art will feature over 100 galleries, both local and international, offering a diverse cultural experience. This year introduces new sections showcasing modern regional artists and works from Central Asia and the Caucasus, encouraging cross-cultural dialogue. Unique collections of historical artifacts and collectibles will also be on display, attracting art enthusiasts globally.

The Visual Campaign Artist plays a crucial role in shaping the fair's identity each year. Mohammed Kazem's appointment for 2024 acknowledges his significant contributions to the UAE art scene over two decades. His work has been pivotal in supporting and nurturing the art community in the region.
Mohamed Khalifa Al Mubarak, Chairman of DCT Abu Dhabi, stated, "The arts have long been a cornerstone of Emirati culture, and Abu Dhabi Art plays a vital role in showcasing our cultural identity to the world. Events like the annual art fair, along with awards such as this, open up new avenues for creativity and expression, while fostering artistic talent at every level, from grassroots level to global prominence."
Gallery Isabelle Van Den Eynde describes Kazem as an artist whose practice includes video, photography, and performance. His work seeks new ways to understand his environment through these mediums. His background as a musician informs his approach to capturing transient phenomena like sound and light in tangible forms.
The annual fair is a culmination of year-long activities by Abu Dhabi Art. These include artist residencies, commissions, exhibitions, and educational outreach programs. The event acts as a catalyst for the growing UAE art market that connects culturally across the Global South.
Fostering Creativity
Kazem expressed his enthusiasm about his role: "I’m pleased to have been chosen to create the visual campaign for this edition of Abu Dhabi Art. I look forward to meeting artists from around the world at the fair, to seeing new artworks and discovering new art techniques." He anticipates engaging with related events and witnessing new commissions from DCT Abu Dhabi.
This year's event promises an enriching experience with its diverse offerings. It aims to foster creativity at all levels while promoting artistic talent globally. The inclusion of modern regional artists alongside historical collections ensures a comprehensive cultural showcase.
